I purchased my F150 new and have been extremely happy with his performance towing east of the Mississippi. my wife and I are planning a trip Through the Rockies (Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Tetons, and hopefully more) in our 27 foot Airstream. Looking at the itinerary I notice many opportunities to be traveling up and down grades in excess of 11%.
I would like to talk with follow Airstream Owners, who tow with a Ford F150 3.5 V6 eco-boost. I have been towing Airstream’s since 1974 and have towed in all of the lower 48 states. I am very comfortable in towing in most conditions, so what I’m looking for, is your impressions of the performance of the engine and braking, in steep and extended changes in elevation.

Thank you very much and looking forward to your comments
I bought my 2011 F150 4x4 Ecoboost 3.5 at 70k.I now have 222k.I tow a 1965 28 ft.Ambassador(4200 lbs. dry. .Tows great but going down Monarch Pass the stock brakes we a problem.I replaced with some vented rotors and ceramic pads.Problem solved.I get anywhere from 12 to 14 MPG on premium.

I have a 2018 F-150 Supercrew 3.5L Ecoboost and had the same cam phaser issue. I wish I had your info on Ford as my dealer never offered any coverage of this repair expense, $2,400 later! I still love the truck and pull a 25’ FC with no issues, love the 10 sp transmission when in the mountains!

We have a 2019 F-150 Crew Cab with max trailer tow package. Last April/May we went from STL taking I-44 / I-40 to southern and central California and came back on I-70. We had no issues towing whatsoever. In New Mexico, there were wind gusts of 75mph and while you could feel it, the truck/trailer combo did great. We did a similar trip in 2011 with a 2005 F-250 diesel and the F-150 did much better. There's not a lot of payload left, but we don't take much with us anyway.

You've got a good combination. We towed a 25' and our 27' with a F-150 3.5EB no problems in all western terrain. Lots of good advice here on how to manage grade. As others have, we switched to an F-250 a couple years ago, mostly for payload considerations. Like where you live!

I have the 2018 model of the same truck. I tow a Sport 22FB. Have been all over the western mountains in different conditions and am very satisfied with the truck's performance.

2018 F150 Eco boost

We live at 9000 feet in Colorado. Pull our foot Flying Cloud all over the west. No problems. Plenty of power thanks to the turbo.
Going down grades with caution is the norm!
