2005 Chevy Suburban Z71

Hello Airstream Fans!
This is my very first post (and very first forum of any kind, be gentle with me) and I would like some opinions if I may.
I have recently purchased a 2005 1/2 ton Chevy Suburban Z71 4x4 with a 5.3 engine. I have plans of purchasing an Airstream so my wife and I can " go see stuff" and I have many questions. First, what is my towing capacity? I looked up the parts code in the glove box and I have the 3:42 rear end. I also have the towing package which includes the transmission cooler. (I think it's either 7000 or 7400 lbs). I would like to stay under weight as much as I can. I understand that being close to capacity is very bad. Am I wrong? Once I find out what my towing capacity is, I can start looking at my options for trailers. Is there anyone else here who has this tow vehicle and if so, what are you towing with it and how does it handle? P.S. I'll probably be looking for a trailer that's a few years old with a queen bed in it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. (Trying to research and learn)

Your Suburban should be able to handle a late model 25' Airstream or smaller. It should also be able to handle just about any vintage Airstream since they are quite a bit lighter than the newer ones.

We have a 2005 Suburban 2500. We also had a 2005 25FB weighed in at 7,400# ready to camp.

If your Suburb an is set-up properly, it can be an effective to vehicle. If you are new to towing, you should start familiarizing yourself with hitch systems and trailer brake controllers.

I just upgraded from 1500 burb to 2500, I pull a 19' Bambi, however my burb runs loaded with work relAted goods, hence my upgrade. 1500 was just fine when I was on those rare " vacation" trips. Welcome and good luck.
