19ft C-channel frame tongue and WDH?

I had posted this over in the Bambi section of the forums. Trying here instead...

Do I need to do anything special when using WDH brackets on the 4" open c-channel trailer frame? Do I need to have the frame boxed or install some sort of a block/spacer in the frame? I have a Eaz-lift Recurve R6 hitch. The brackets have the two plates that squeeze the frame. They are like the equalizer style brackets. The trailer is a 2016 Flying Cloud 19C.

What are you towing with? You may not need a WD hitch.

I am towing with a 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew-cab. I was thinking with the ~600lb tongue weight that I did need a WDH.

The GMC owners manual says:
The trailer tongue weight should be 10 percent to
15 percent of the total loaded trailer weight, up to a
maximum or 600 lbs (272 kg) with a weight carrying
hitch. The trailer tongue weight should be 10 percent
to 15 percent of the total loaded trailer weight, up to a
maximum of 1,000 lbs (453 kg) with a weight distributing
hitch.

I would suggest you look at an Andersen hitch. You need sway control more than WD. The Andersen will give superior sway control and can easily provide the little WD you need via adjustable tension on the chains.

Well, I already have the R6. Both the Airstream dealer and Eaz-lift have now told me that it won't be a problem.

You won't have any problem clamping on the open c-channel frame. I've got an Andersen on my 19' Bambi, and the specs call for 150# torque on very similar brackets to your R6.

I have a 2015 19' Bambi and am struggling with giving up so much ground clearance that a WD or sway control hitch requires. Could you tell me how much does the lowest point on the Andersen hitch hang below the Airstream's frame?

You would do better in many ways looking into an Eaz-Lift ReCurve hitch that places the w.d. bars above the assembly.

The lowest point on an Andersen hitch is the triangular plate the location of which is similar to the nut that holds a standard ball to the stinger.
A good estimate would be 4"-5" below the tongue of the coach.
