Smile New 2003 Safari 25C

Hi Folks, I wanted to introduce myself. Ive been reading as much as I can, and I would like to say Thanks for all the information so far. I just towed our new Trailer home last week. So here come the questions.... Would any of you Airstream owners, especially the Safari owners, add anything to a Standard issue Trailer. I'm considering a Black Tank rinsing System of some kind. I'm pretty sure the LS package offered a better Water pump. and I have just ordered a Spare Tire.. Ok now here comes the Big question, and please no fightin Boys. I have a 2002 E-250 V8, after towing the Trailer home without any wieght distribution or Sway Control, I think a Reese Dual Cam should be more than enough. I drove a Trailer Truck for a living awhile ago, I just don't have any experience with these kinds of Set-ups. Thanks in Advance..........

I have used the Reese Dual Cam System since 1995 with a trailer very similar in size to yours - - a 1964 Overlander (26' and 6,000 pounds) with a 3/4-ton 7.4 Litre Suburban. I am thrilled with the system, and would NEVER consider going back to friction sway control The Reese Dual Cam System is virtually trouble-free once it is properly setup - - periodic checks on torque on attachment hardware is all that is required. Unlike the friction sway controls that I have used, it does not have to be adjusted for wet pavement, windy conditions, or heavy truck traffic - - and it doesn't have to be removed when backing or maneuvering in tight quarters. I have been so well pleased with the system that I added it to my '78 Argosy Minuet after Reese confirmed that it could be used with smaller trailer so long as the hitch weight is at least 400 pounds.

Good luck with your decision!

Kevin

Well you caught the spare which I consider mandatory. I added an extra Fantastic Fan. Having two provides a lot more air flow plus the ability to run one in the area you aren't occupying so that cuts down the sound levels. Power jack is also a great option. Cuts down on the crankin.

I pull with a Reese Dual Cam sway control. The newer style, which I would recommend for you, has no U-bolts which on many Safari's has been an issue because of the bolts needing to be placed in the area of the gas bottles.

Here is the link for a picture of that hitch.

Ditto all of the above.

Regarding the balck tank rinse...if it is not installed from the factory it will be $$$$ to put in later due to the labor costs of removing the aluminum belly, etc. You may want to check out the Flush King - www.flushking.com - which does an acceptable job without dragging hoses into the trailer.

Congratulations on your new purchase.

Yeah, the black water flush goes up into the bathroom cabinetry to an air break, and then back down to a nozzle that's mounted in the side of the tank. Would be a LOT of labor to install after assembly. The Flush King looks like a much cheaper alternative.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm real proud to finally own an Airstream, and real glad this Forum exists. Being new at this I'm not sure how much help I can be to anyone else, but you never know.................
