Is there a trick to replacing the right hatch holder over the sink?

Hi, In getting the old girl ready, I noticed that the strut that holds up the cabinet lid on the right over the sink had pushed through the vinyl at the upper rear. It's not going any further into the inner skin. I replaced the lift / holder with the offical AS part...it does the same? Looked at the cabinets over the twins and sofa they all look the same from the outside. But all but the one over the kitchen go down and away from the top of the cabinet. Is there a install trick ? I'm a little hesitent to pull the working lid holders out and switch. Maybe time to replace them all, any suggestions?
