I am SORRY, but you must BOTH be confused. OUR dogs are the smartest in the world. What one doesn't get, the other one picks up :-) Our smooth coat is a wimp, and the rough coat is deaf, and fearless. They work off each other .
One we paid a fortune for at a pet shop, the other was a special needs rescue, we had her shipped to Illinois from Arkansas :-)
We have never regretted that decision for ONE single second.

I'm sure that everyone will agree that their pet is the smartest, friendliest, best-looking and best behaved pet in the world.

We got our Weimaraner, Wally, 9 1/2 years ago when he was five months old from a breeder who had received him back from a first buyer who thought he was not "standard." Is that a rescue? Well, he ISN'T just standard, he's exceptional. He IS over sized, but that is just so he could fit his big heart. He is loyal, loving, tolerant. . .a great dog. But, he is getting older and slowing down. He does not travel with us because he just loves home, and now his pond. We've been thinking for some time that we might bring a younger dog into our home for a companion for Wally, a pup to help keep him active and young. Friday, I found an ad in the newspaper for a 4 month old German Shorthair; one look, I was sunk, and he is now sparking our lives. Wally, true to his patient agreeable nature, is accepting this pushy youngster and the pup is settling in nicely. This one, I think, we'll train to travel with us. So, Wally and Moose are our furries~not to mention our elderly blind cat and two young barn kitties.

Actually, my Pei (Bandit) really is smart and well-behaved. That being said, he doesn't play well with other dogs, and is kind of stand-offish with people, so scratch friendly off of the list. He is also, without a doubt, the ugliest dog that I have ever taken up residence with. It's nice to look at all these cutesy pictures of everybody's huggable little critters, or handsome shots of heroic-looking large dogs, but my Bandit falls short of anything that I've seen on the forum thus far. I mean the poor bugger has really been whacked with the ugly stick a few too many times. I've really gotta take some pictures and figure out how to post them. Is there some kind of forum prize or title for having the ugliest dog? If so, I think Bandit and I would win it hands (paws?) down ! P.

There was a live pet show a couple of weeks ago, the Ugliest Dog Contest. The ugliest dog really was. No hair, warts all over his skin, lop-eared, and looked like he had chased a parked bus...

Sarah
And last, but not least, there was Sarah. We adopted her when she was just 3 years ago. She succumbed to bladder cancer two years later...

We have 3 female dogs (I am the only guy in the rig) All of them were looking for a home. Bandit was in the pound on death row, she is now 13 years old 15 pounds and the boss. Smokie is 2 and was from a breader who had a breading mistake (fence was too short). Gracie is a 2 year old yellow lab who got too big for the family who had her. Bandit is not in the photo because at 13 she decides when she gets her picture taken.

Got these two, who go with us in the Argosy, from their breeder; however, they were rescued by her from an extremely bad home. The people had purchased them and then they decided the "kids" didn't like them and they were housed in a dark garage, covered with fleas and malnourished.

We trapped them
We have four cats, all former ferals that we trapped (or were trapped by a cat rescue group). Buddy and Bonnie have become true pets, Elly is thinking about it and Misty after 3+ years of indoor living still thinks I have weapons of mass destruction which I'd use on her if she let her guard down even for one minute.
Here's a photo of Buddy and Bonnie from last winter assisting me in my home office.

Where did you get your travel companion?
My two Chihuahuas were purchased from a breeder, and it was something of a surprise when the breeders name was revealed (my first contact was via a blind advertisement in the Quad City Times). It turned out that the breeder's husband is a distant cousin of Wally Byam's -- the breeder's business name was Byam's Kennel.
Precious is now nearly four years old and weighs just a little over 3.5 pounds while her half-brother Little Bear (his color and markings remind me of the Bear-Brand Hosiery Co trademark bear) is a little over 7.5 pounds. I don't have current photos of them as they are staying with my father while my moving process is completed.

We found Bokeh, the silver-gray domestic longhair, sick and dehydrated, in our neighbor's overgrown backyard in 2001. Rollei, the smartest orange tabby in the world, strolled into our house as a kitten late in 2003 and has been with us ever since. My husband rescued Stutz, allegedly a Pembroke Welsh Corgi (but I'm sure there was a JRT somewhere in his past) from a U.S. military-run animal shelter in Germany in 2004. We hit the road full-timing this past April. Life is never dull!

Kerry Blues
We have two Kerry Blues named Callahan & Mulligan and they are obviously
the smartest dogs in the world because as terriers they know they don't
have to do anything unless they want to or if it pleases their fancy . What
fun they are and great pals to travel with and the nice thing, they do not
shed. They do collect snow when we take them skate skiing but all the other
dogs they meet on the trail makes up for the snow. They must have played
with 30 other dogs yesterday and they were "Pooped" out when they got
home. Happy Trails, John & Betty
