I hate "camper." That's the derogatory term that truckers use. Van is OK. Coach is a bit pretentious, but I tend to use that. My wife still calls it a trailer half the time even after 4 years with the AI.

An Airstream Travel Trailer is a bonafide American Cultural Icon, and is treated as such when seen out in public. I call our Lucy an "Airstream" when talking to strangers, but amongst ourselves, we always call her Lucy. We have had three Airstreams over the years, and the have all been "Lucy".

We also enjoy the thumbs up and the comments when on the road - especially from a group of teenagers looking at our 2021 Flying Cloud and saying "man, that's so retro and cool", and others who say "wow, do they still make those?". Our is registered as "Sleeper Service" but we tend to just call it the trailer.

Ours just barely fits in our driveway down the hill from Victorville. Have a lot of passerby questions and slow drive by runs. The scary one was the dude that came by twice s as no made a cash on the spot offer (way too low). I’ve added to the anti-theft precautions after that…

We named our trailer/camper/Airstream Alice.
We probably refer to her as the trailer most often, followed by Alice.

Our first night on the road was an overnight stay in our son’s driveway in GA. We had purchased the AS in VA. No one there but us because the son was working in VA and took his family with him.
We ordered dinner to be delivered. DoorDash or something like that. The 20-ish delivery woman said, “I love your Airstream.” Not “trailer”, but “Airstream”.

I've always referred to all my camping entities by their brand name followed by a descriptor if necessary. VW Bus, Coleman tent, Colemen pop up, Hi-Lo travel trailer, Electra travel trailer, Airstream, and finally Airstream slide-out. Noting that when you say Airstream, most people visually have a picture pop up in their mind's eye. Only when I got the Classic did I add the descriptor slide-out to denote it's uniqueness.

This made me think...if another person comments on Alice, they usually refer to her as "your Airstream..."

A Jeep Wrangler isn't an SUV, it's a Jeep.
A Corvette isn't a sports car, it's a Vette.
A Harley-Davidson isn't a motorcycle, it's a Harley.
I think we all understand these differences, or we'd all be towing around Jayco travel trailers with two slide outs and fluorescent exterior lighting.

When I got my first Jeep it was a used TJ with a soft top and plastic windows that zipped up. It was just as much a Jeep as a new fully modded Rubicon. Nothing pretentious about it, I always called it my jeep. Not my car, not my truck. I still always call my Jeep, a jeep because people always know what it is, and it’s a different thing.
When my Airstream arrives, I will call it my Airstream and there is nothing pretentious about that. Wether you have a vintage 16 foot Bambi or a brand new Classic, everyone knows it as an Airstream and it’s not about price at all. There are far more expensive RVs out there. What makes them different has nothing to do with class or price.

Living in Florida, I come in contact with a lot of boaters. They typically refer to their rigs by the length and brand name. They get very inquisitive when I mention I have a 31' LandYacht. Then I mention it is an Airstream... with wheels.

We tend to call ours the Airstream most of the time, but I can’t say that we’ve never called it the camper or the trailer. It’s registered as “Sparkle Plenty”. My wife sometimes calls it Sparkles.

We have names for both our trailers. But when we discuss which one we’re taking, it’s with the 55 or 66. Simple enough.

Gertie.
Amongst ourselves and our friends we call ours Gertie.
When talking to anyone else it's either 'our Airstream' or 'our travel trailer' depending on which we think will be understood more easily by the other people in the conversation. When we discuss it with friends overseas, we call her 'our caravan' since that makes more sense to them. In other words, it's all context related.

Seriously…What’s with the exterior lighting…on the ground.
I figure that if my lights shine on my neighbor’s whatever then they’re a nuisance. Besides, the rats will simply use the lights to find their way.

I think the ground effect lights are to give you light when you pass out drunk, your buddies can take plenty of pictures to post on Facebook.

I call mine "the airstream" but don't concern myself with what anyone else calls it.

She's the daughter of B.O. Plenty and Gravel Gertie, but yes, a Dick Tracy character.

My husband and I still work our jobs of 30+ years but now live full-time in our AS in an RV park only 3 miles from our office. To drive my elderly, deep South, snobby mother crazy I tell people that we live in a single-wide in a trailer park.
One evening, we were at a conference sitting at a dinner table for 10. With my mother in attendance, I made that statement. My mother said that no, we lived in our very nice Airstream in a nice campground. After a brief pause the acquaintance said, "so, you DO live in a trailer park!" It was hilarious. My mother did not smile.
