Beartiful, Beautiful Safari!!!

It really takes a lot to eclipse streams here. I have only seen one Safari in person, and it has been a few years. Colors were identical, but lacked the Airstream option..

My 'Airstream' is on hiatus for 8 more days ... so I'll be removing the door on the '74 Argosy today! Thanks to nickcrowhurst, LI Pets, Inland Andy, Artlink and others for thoughts on how to resolve sprung doors.

Because Mbuti (the Caravel) performed admirably on the art circuit to Logan and Vegas two weeks ago. Because the Sovereign (Big Guy) is once again making big progress and will probably be ready for Burning Man. Because the Safari (Average Joe) is going to be a real showcase effort in the fall.

Because they brought me to this forum and all its wonderful members, too many to mention here! Special thanks to Gen Dissaray for giving me the website address.

Thank you Vaughan. We have had the car a very long time and redone it twice. They only made 1,292 of them so not many out there then let alone after 50 years. I think the survival rate for '51 Airstreams is probably higher than '57 Pontiac Safari's . We have always felt that the only way to make it better is to have an Airstream in tow, and it had to be just the right one at that. We are happy, life is good, and to top it off we are heading off first thing tomorrow to Ferndale, WA to camp with a group we've camped with for 17 years, and celebrate my wife's birthday. So it's Thursday, and I like my Airstream because it's the best option we ever added to the Safari.

I just returned from a 1600 mile trip through three States and it performed flawlessly and provided comfort and ease everywhere it went.

P.S. it offroaded well too.

It's Thursday, and I hate my Airstream(well not entirely). It is only a week old, and the batteries won't hold a charge. Turn on a couple ceiling lights for a few minutes, and they go dim. Discharges immediately from 12.8 volts to 10.5 volts. Colonial Airstream told me they "load tested them". Was a "new" 2006, manufactured 10/05 that they acquired from a dealer that went out of business. So, knowing that it sat for 18+ months...wouldn't tit make sense to replace the batteries. Factory said it was OK to replace them today. So, since I live 10 hours away, now I have to remove them and take them for a 130 mile one way trip to the nearest Interstae Battery dealer and exchange. I think they are going to charge me an "adjustment" fee. Also, would just ike to say that this trailer has the worst quality interior of any we have ever owned. Actully the best one we ever had was the Lance truck camper we traded in for this 2006 Safari 23 (new). It was still in better shape than this trailer, after a couple years use. It's a real shame. I think they have the outside down pretty good after 75 years. They need to work n the inside fit and trim. And, the floor could be twice as thick. It wouldn't add more than 100-200 pounds to the weight, and would make the floor solid under your feet.

Hope things get better, we realy wanted an Airstream.

Happiness is an Airstream

it's Thursday, and I like my airstream because it is my HAPPY PLACE! I can sit in it and dream of far away places then get online and route a trip to that far away place. I can imageneer so many ways to make it more fun. Yes it is MY HAPPY PLACE. LOL, Elton John is playing on the radio right now, "Yellow Brick Road." I bet even in OZ they had Airstreams.

Camping, Camping and More Camping

We just returned from the WBCCI rally in Perry, GA. Had a great time. Now it's time to do some laundry, go to work for one day then back to more camping. So it's Thursday and we like our Airstream because we will be camping again tomorrow.

Dead Batteries

Yeah, I know all about what causes batteries to go bad...the problem is that Colonial let this brand new unit go with me off the lot with batteries that sat for 21 months without any regard for their care and nurturing. I also didn't tell you that even though I bet every owner in the last five years has told their dealer that the shower door leaks water at the bottom...this dealer didn't bother caulking the bottom rail. I did it myself, and it stopped! Imagine that. You know, sometimes I wonder what these techs do at the dealers when they aren't sitting around and playing cards. I made a specific request before delivery that they do a "load" test on the batteries...since I had a sneaking suspicion they were sitting for a long period of time. They assured me they had performed that test, and all was good. I live 10 hours from their dealership. I'm fairly certain they didn't ever expect to see me again. Have a Great Day, and Thanks for the interest. I't all good...God Bless the children and idiots !

Sharon, here's something to remember your day by -- looks like it was in the very last minute of that username's life too! I recall your threads on the purchase and pulling LadyBug back home. Always willing to help!

yay i finally remembered!

it's thursday and i love my airstream because... ( because... )

2 years ago today (or yesterday?) robert hauled her in from houston, a great eBay AS. we started gutting to make *ours*. going full time, we thought. then a month later i was in the hospital in septic shock and in the next 6 weeks died a few times and life changed forever. (sorry but this goes with the it's thursday )

we have never eaten inside, slept in it, had it out of the driveway. never went inside for over a year. and it seemed like life was over and that at way too young i wouldn't be able to really get way. (wah wah wah ... don't cry for me argentina... really, i sure don't!)

a few months ago we went out and started ripping ruthlessly and continuing on at least a part of our quest. we are going to finish up desecrating our AS (not vintage but *us*) and then be able to keep it at our camping resort we have not used in 18 years, wonderful tho it is. it isn't like traveling but WAY better than nothing! we had to trade off our big truck for an HHR that gets way better mileage. when we go over, LVL will spot it at the site we choose for us, then take it back to lot when we leave. that is $15 and storage is $20/mo.

so, i love my airstream because it has given us back a hope for getting out away from everything we want and/or need to get away from and enjoy our baby.

happy 2nd birthday to our no-name AS. i love you because you hold a sunny tomorrow in my heart.

now if only we could tow her back to washington where i grew up. *sigh*

e

(really sorry this came off so corny. and btw, don't feel sorry in any of this. God always helps us grow in all things, i'm grateful)

AND STILL NUTS!

( a med i'm taking right now makes me higher than a kite sometimes so i am absolved of responsibility for the gaggy type stuff here)

"what, me worry?" alfred e. newman
