Can these windows be saved?? 1954 26' Cruiser

Looks like I have some work to do, has anyone else dealt with something like this? One of the previous owners had this terrible idea of putting plexiglass over the windows with caulking of some sort and they put screw in the trim to keep the windows shut.Click image for larger version

Behind the Plexiglas are the old window glass? Was thought perhaps as sun protection?!? I would take away all the stuff. In the middle are cranks to close, are missing also?

The old glass is missing in most the windows, I have a few of the cranks but not all... I was thinking to pull out all the windows, frame and all, to get them cleaned up in my shop then rivet them back into place with Olympic rivets, I'm sure I can create some cardboard templates for getting new glass, I guess I'm just curious if there are any tricks to the whole process, or things to be aware

Those windows can be slid out of the upper track, frame and all. Then it's pretty easy to see how they come apart. The disgusting part will be the extra holes that are drilled in the frames. A good sheet metal shop can build new frames, I've built several. Vintagetrailer supply sells all of the cranks, gaskets and some of the replacement extrusions. It is a large amount of work!

Awesome! Thanks for the insight, I'll have a look at the site... I feel pretty comfortable around metal and working with things I haven't done in the past, I just know that every niche has there tricks and tips, and what you're saying is exactly the type of info I'm looking for
