Thumbs up What about the 74' 28 footers?

We own a 1974 Yes that is right 1974 28' Argosy and I did not have that option when I signed up so I selected the 1975 option. Could someone please fix this as I do not want to misrepresent my antique travel trailer.

The best double-check is to verify your serial number -- it isn't unusual to find the title on a Vintage coach to reflect a different year than the actual Argosy/Airstream model year. There are also variations in the the way the length was reported -- sometimes the length was rounded up and sometimes down (again this can cause confusion in states where actual measurements may have been reported on the title -- my '64 Overlander was titled as 27' due to one of these situations when I purchased it in 1995). You can decipher your VIN as follows:

20D8V1111 -- can be interpreted as:

20 = Length as Advertised in Argosy Literature
D = Double Bed Arrangement ("T" would represent Twin Bed Arrangement)
8 = Represents Model Year of Coach -- in this case, 1978
V = Versailes, OH Assembly plant ("S" would represent Cerritos, CA Assembly)
1111 = Represents sequential production number.

Another possibility is that you might have an early "experimental" or "prototype" that may have been made a year prior to the introduction of the Argosy 28 -- since Argosy was the "experimental" division for Airstream it wouldn't necessarily be out of the realm of possibilities.

Good luck with your Argosy!

Kevin

Thank you. I do not have a title as one was not available when we bought this trailer, and I just assume that one wouldn't need one for a trailer of this vintage. If I am incorrect in this please enlighten me. I will look into the vin thing, however I believe that I will still have the same results as the person I bought this from rebuilds Airstreams. The PO before the rebuilder used it as a guard shack. I will be posting pictures when I master this forum thing, then you will get to see the project from start to finish.

I just found the VIN in the original bill of sale and it is 28T4V0053, And according to your information would indicate a 1974 28' twin bed made in Versailles, OH, and would have been an early production model, perhaps the prototype you referred to? Well thanks for the great info.

You will need to contact the vehicle licensing agency in your state about title requirements. There is substantial variation in laws from state to state. Good luck on your project - it should be fun.

I also have a 1974 Arogsy 28. What a great trailer! When I registered I opted for the 1973 but checking out the VIN it is truly a 74. Looks like I'm not the only one

The DP8005 might work on a flat surface that will not receive any torque, but when I used it around my fresh water inlet, it gave when I tried to reassemble it in the trailer.
