support for upper storage lockers in 79 7.3 minuet

My minuet has a set of drawers and two closets oppposite the bed. I would like to remove the closet next to the stove. This would give me almost a 10' ft countertop of which this trailer lacks. The closet wall seem to help support the four lockers above. MY question is whether anyone has run into this and was it necessary to create support for the lockers above once the closet is removed?

Look inside the closet for screws going into the overhead. I would bet the closet is partial support for the overhead. If the furniture in your Minuet is aluminum frame with vinyl covered aluminum as the wall, then you might be able to use aluminum stock to form the support for the overhead replacing the side of the closet. If the furniture is wood, then building a support shouldn't be a big deal. You will likely be adding weight if you extend the counter top as most counter tops are now MDX pressed board and heavy. AS used 3/4" ply for counter top in my '78 (and '66).

Thumbs up

There is a row of rivets that runs up and down where the two front overheads meet the two rear, I would guess this is one of aluminum ribs that fashions the framework. It seems like a good idea to fashion a support and rivet it to the rib.

Sounds like a plan. Without seeing the area, I can't say the rib is there, but if you have a row of rivets outside and inside in the same place, the rib is there. The closet may not lend much, if any, support. Check inside the overheads to see how the overhead is riveted to the wall. Both the Minuet and the Caravel have the overheads hanging from the wall with the closet wall as a support/stabilizer at one end. The other end is supported by channels riveted to the wall fastened to an end piece for the overhead.
