Recommendations for painting cabinet handles

Hi Everyone:

I am considering painting my the faux wood vinyl walls and cabinetry; it is just too dark in my 73 Argosy. Wondering if it is possible to paint the handles too?

Does anyone have experience painting the cabinet and drawer handles?

Beth, if the handles are metal, I think I would place them in a crock pot on low with a squirt of Dawn to clean them real well. Now days, your spray paints like Rustoleum and Krylon have come a long way in durable finishes. You may consider an automotive paint in a rattle can at one of the auto parts stores. I have used Duplicate-Color from Autozone on metal with good success. Powder coating is an option, but too expensive for my taste. Good luck

Just about all the major rattle can manufacturers have spray paints that are for plastic. Pick out a color and try one. You may be able to paint one then coat it with a clear top coat for durability. Your vehicle has a lot of painted plastic parts. Check with an auto parts store for recommendations. Good luck

If those plastic handes are smooth, and/or shiny, I recommend a light steel wool to remove any glossy finish. Try a '00' or '000' steel wool first. Take some time to prep them, and make sure you wipe them free of dust before spraying.

Then get a good spray paint and spray them. Spray lightly the first time, let 'em dry, then hit 'em again, and then a third time.

Don't try and spray them once and done. And make sure you let them dry good between coats.

That's what I'd do. And I've stained and painted a lot of stuff over the years.
