New here 76 Argosy 28’ center bath
Hi everyone, after a lifelong dream of owning an airstream, I finally purchased in argosy last weekend. It seemed pretty good for the price, and after seeing many that needed a ton of work, this one did not. I am doing a top to bottom cleaning of all surfaces, and plan to do a refurbishing, not a remodel. I want to keep it close to original. The biggest issue to tackle appears to be the floor. There is rocks in the front near the door, which I know is pretty common. Also in the back curbside near some pipes, there is some wood rot. Both sites of rot are less than a foot in diameter. I’m not handy, I have a local shop that can do floor repair, but not a full subfloor replacement. My plan is to replace the front and back areas with Coosa board. I don’t have the funds at this time to do the middle. I’m wondering if I will be wasting time and money doing it piecemeal like this. Has anyone done this? Any regrets the longer you owned it? The goal is to get it usable to camp in. No other big issues, but might do more refurbishing as funds allow.

Hello 'Eschleic' and welcome to the form. I'm responding to your post, because we just did what you are thinking.
We too have a '76 Argosy 28' Centre Bath. Our trailer had the same holes/wear in the plywood floor that you mention. We replaced the 1/2" plywood front and back (three 4x8 sheets in each location) leaving the two sheets that are under the bath and closets.
Doing so allowed us to enhance and refurbish the trailer. Thus changing/upgrade to LED lights and update soft-materials, as needed.
We now consider the trailer a forty-year problem. Which means it will become our grandchildren's issues. So, do it! You will not regret it.

Hello Eschleic congrats on your purchase. Glad your outfit is in decent shape. It sure helps being handy but it sounds like you got a good shop to help you out.
I did a segment repair on the back curbside. When I pulled the carpet up under the bed I wondered why they put an aluminium floor under the bed. It was the belly pan. So I replaced that segment and repaired some other issues while I was there. Used it for another 6 years until I am doing what I am doing to it now. I feel it was well spent because it allowed me to get some good safe use out of it. Unfortunately I was a forum lurker then so I didn't post on it.
Do what you can. Enjoy it. Work on it a bit more and enjoy it a bit more. Not sure by your avatar if you got the trailer or the motor home. If you got the motor home...make sure you have the drive-train checked over. Check out the motor home postings because they are chock full of advice. If you got the beige beauty on your profile, then check those wheels, brakes and hitch.

Hey there. I recently purchased a 28ft argosy from a cow pasture. The previous owners had torn out the rear twins and just had a rollout bed in the back. Are there any pictures of what they should look like inside and out?

Hey Chris, thanks. Could you send me pictures of what it looks like under the plywood? I really appreciate your help.

Sorry Skilled2 and missed your post. Unfortunately, the trailer is now stored. But, I can tell you the plywood is part of the bed structure with the drawers underneath. Our mattresses sit on top. Oh, and the cat, based on the attached picture.

Skilled2, got to trailer over the weekend and took a couple of pictures. Both, left and right pictures show what is underneath the plywood sheets.

Congrats on the purchase! I've been looking for an Argosy 28 w/ central bath for ages that I can restore. If anyone finds one or has one to sell, please keep me in mind!

@solyoung I joined the forums today because I bought a 1976 Argosy 28 Center Bath w/ double vista windows 2 weeks ago from Zionsville PA. That isn't far from you if my memory of PA serves me correct. I'm surprised you didn't scoop it up before I could!

@76Argosy28 Nice score! I picked up an 81 International 27 a little over a month ago. I had to drive to Tennessee, but it was in good shape and worth the trip. Now comes the fun part of total renovation!

Enjoy
Floor rot is so usual. Mine was the same way, at rear bath and the front door. Plus as all restorations you might find more which is normal. If you in no hurry I’d scab over the holes and enjoy it until you have a plan to refurbish. Enjoy your unit

@solyoung Are you still looking for an Argosy center bath? I have a 1978 Argosy 28’ motorhome that I’m going to sell. Very great all original unit but does need tlc. I’m open to an offer.

Not any more. I picked up an '81 International 27 that had been taken down to the frame for restoration but that owner had only gotten as far as the subfloor reinstallation. With the blank canvas I was able to set up the center bath beautifully. Now, I just have the rest of the build
Thanks for tagging through. If we hadn't picked this one up, I'd probably be very interested.
