Color codes for my '72 Argosy 22'

Hello,my name is Terry,i just bought a 1972 argosy which has been setting in the sun for years. The two tone paint is very faded.I am having the whole trailer repainted and would like to match the original color as close as possible. This is my first trailer and would like to do this right the first time,so does my wife Tammy. The whole trailer is still original, the curtains are mostly gone but the rest of the interior is still there including the green shag carpeting.hot water heater works, heater works, stove and burners work, refrigerator still trying that one.Ran air threw the system no leaks.yeaaaaaa.The metal tank in the back looks good and so does the holding tank up front. No rot anywhere in the floors so we are off to a good start inside.Need to have the front and side curtains redone and today found a bag of new curtain holding sliding type clips??nice. Please let me know if you can help us out in any way.We are here in Ohio.Thank you very much for reading my first Thread about our New (old) Argosy.
Take care

color codes for my 72 Argosy 22

Greetings Terry and Tammy!

Welcome to the Forums and the world of Vintage Argosy ownership!

I have the color code/cross-reference information that was posted by Charlie Burke (a Vintage Friendly Airstream dealership employee who also is (was?) an Argosy owner). The information is quoted below:

The original colors were provided by Lilly Industrial Coatings. In 1988 Airstream published a list of Dupont Centari substitute numbers. Based on that list the Argosy colors through 1977 were:

Upper--Light Beige 44534-A
Lower--Metallic Brown 44721-AM

The light beige seems to be rather consistent for the upper panels of the Argosy line at least through 1978 - - the 1979 seems to be much lighter (closer to a colonial white or bisquit). The Metallic Brown in my experience is close for most years (where the banana wrap was a shade of brown) other than 1978 when the original lower banana wrap color was more of a copper/burnt orange metallic.

Good luck with your coach!

Kevin

Hi Kevin, thank you very much for the information,my wife and i are very excited about our new trailer.i will try to locate these colors.Never would have thought the bottom half of the trailer was a metallic color.Very faded and weathered for sure.Looks like the insert in the belt molding was a wood grain finish.Thank you very much again

color codes for my 72 Argosy 22

Greetings Terry and Tammy!

The original rub-rail and belt-line insert material was most likely an orange plastic (with Argosy, much like Airstream there are very few absolutes). The orange plast insert material is available from Airstream through your nearest Airstream dealer or service center. There are also several Airstream dealers with on-line parts stores who often list these insert pieces inluding Inland RV, Ace Fogdall RV, Bill Thomas Airstream, and Out of Doors Mart.

Good luck with your coach!

Kevin

Good morning Kevin, thank you again for the information on the molding.I was lucky enough to receive the original sales brochure and owners manual. In one of the pictures it shows a wood grain insert .I hope to be able to duplicate that .I will check with the airstram company sight and see what i can come up with.If i can i will send you a picture or two of the brochure. We ar going to paint her in two weeks and then replace carpet(green shag) and hopefully find curtains. My wife and i would like to thank you for all your help.I am going to send the paint codes to the shop so he can replicate them.Hope to return her to her original state.
Take care
