From Jack's on 7/20
"Trailer is complete".
Not really, there is a lot more for us to do - lights, bumper, badging, decals, etc
Plus, we'll be installing a Marinco plug in on the street side near the polarity light.
Pick up on Monday 7/23 - will send more photos when we have completed our work...

Final photos after paint...
Replacing everything that came off for the paint prep didn't take too long. However the "six metre" decals just came in last week and were applied over the weekend - small job, real slow to do for the decal company.
I'll do the Marinco plug in later, after recovery from back surgery.
Attached are photos of how she looks now - we're loving the look of the Wimbledon White and expect the interior will stay cooler in the south Florida sunshine...Geo

Find a paint shop that CAN do it and also WANTS to do it. This can be very hard to do - it took us 3 years to find the one we went with. Use an excellent paint - we used Emron, there are others. Be wary of low estimates - may be poor quality work or paint. Educate yourself via the forums on the process - there is disagreement on some things: caulk before or after, self-etching primer or not, etc. Look for the common elements and then listen to how the paint shop would do it. If it rings true based on your research, then you may have found a good shop. And if the shop rep says that "prep is the key to a great paint job", you have a winner!
Then you have to decide what you want painted - window and door trim, hatches, vents, tanks, etc. We went through many photos of re-painted Argosys and agonized over every element - it was very time consuming. You can see from the photos what we went with - and we love it. We also eliminated the belt-line - thought that it gave a cleaner look (like Vintage Thunder). I never liked the beltline when washing the Minuet - it always collected dirt and debris which would drip down on the paint after the final rinse. We did not polish any of the exposed aluminum, just gave it a brushed satin finish with a fine 3M gray stripping pad - easy to maintain. What elements you paint as well as color/colors is personal preference - do what YOU like - that is the beauty of the Argosy. We went with the original color of Wimbledon White because of our location in SW Florida and we liked it. We discovered after the trailer was stripped that it got much warmer inside - and you could cook an egg on the dark gray endcaps. The white is much cooler to the touch outside and cooler inside...
Camp on...Geo

Unless you like a constant job of polishing bare aluminum, by all means paint. I have owned a polished aluminum airplane for many years. It's a real job keeping it nice and shiny, even though keeping it in a well protected hangar. Getting out in rainy weather increases the effort. Surely looks beautiful when polished, but lots of work.

We found this out the hard way - and for the Argosy it was even more difficult due to the sanding swirls that had to be removed prior to polishing. Paint was the only way to go for us...Geo

She came out beautiful!!! Know what you mean about the beltline creating stains below, ughhhh! So did y'all do the prep ie sanding, pricing and taping or did the paint shop do it.

We stripped all the paint off - real easy with Smart Strip. We sanded all the aluminum with 180 grit per the paint shop directions - not too difficult and didn't take long by hand with the sandpaper wrapped around a flexible sanding block. The paint shop wanted to sand and prep the end caps, ABS, banana wrap, tongue, and fill some minor dents. The "in shop" photos that were posted earlier in this thread show some of the prep work that was done by the paint shop - more sanding, filling, more sanding, priming, more sanding, paint, clear coat. We did none of the taping, but did send it into the shop with detailed photos showing what was NOT to be painted. They only made one boo-boo and painted the curb side electric outlet - but we kinda like it...Geo
