Argosy Weight
Greetings psychpw!
I have the factory literature for Argosy trailers from 1975 through 1979. If you can tell me the year and basic floorplan; I can reference the empty (unladen) weight of the coach as well as the empty (unladen) hitch weight. I am not at home right now, so will search the literature upon my return there in about three hours.
So far as I have been able to determine, this information (Argosy product weights, etc.) is not posted anywhere on the Internet; not even on Airstream's corporate site.

Hey PW
Kevin has really cool brochures for the Argosys in his photo
album. I couldn't open them right now but click on Photos
under his post and go to page 2. I believe that your info is there.

I have a manual for a 77 - here's what it says:
GVWR - 6200 lbs
Factory Weight w or w/o options - 3850 & 3870
Allowable aditional weight (water, LP, stuff) 2350 or 2370
Gross axle rating - 5600
Tongue weight w/o options - 520 lbs
There's more - PM me if you have questions.

Hello there PdWms,
Kevin has great resources and is a solid contributor to these forums. You'll get the best info when he gets back at it.
My manual for 1976 lists Factory Weight w/o options as 3830# for a twin bed, 3850 for a double bed version. The GVWR is the same for both -- 6200#. There are a lot of variable weights; e.g., air conditioner was a 113 pound option -- Kevin, is this right? Auxiliary main step 12#, BAL Jacks 60#, Gray tank 90#, Fridge options..., Steel vs aluminum LP tanks... See where this is going?

Greetings M&E!
The 1978 Argosy 30 had an empty weight of 4,270 lbs (center-double) or 4,290 lbs (rear-twins/center bath). The empty hitch weight was 405 lbs (center-double) or 520 lbs (rear-twins/center bath). The 1978 brochure page for the Argosy 30 is found below:
One thing to be aware of with these weights is that they are empty weights of the base coach without options and do not include any fluids, fuels, or personal belongings. It is not unusual for optional equipment to add 300 or more pounds, fluids and fuels as much as 400+ pounds, and then you need to add your personal belongings. The empty weight of my '64 Overlander is 4,400 pounds with options (300+ pounds more than its advertised weight); and when it is loaded for a vacation trip, it weighs in at approximately 6,100 pounds. The hitch weight when the trailer is carefully loaded with full fresh water tank and LP tanks will approach 15% of the trailer's gross (loaded) weight - - in the case of my Overlander its hitch weight when loaded is 750 to 775 pounds.
Good luck with your investigation!
Kevin

Thanks a lot for the information. It appears that I can figure about 6,290# fully loaded w/options. I'm towing with a 1999 E150 5.4L and max towing capacity is about 7,000#. That's cutting it pretty close.
Thanks,
Mark

Close real close. Don't forget the weight of the driver and your passengers and any gear they may have goes toward that tow rating. I know I always forget about it.

'76 22-footer, how to move?
I am looking pretty hard at a '76 22-foot Argosy. It looks like just what I want, but I have one question that the current owner has no answer for. If I buy it, I will have to tuck it into a corner of my property hitch-first. That is, I can't back it in with the hitch attached to a truck. How hard is it to move one of these things by hand? Can me and a couple of beefy guys pull it 30 feet or so, or am I just dreaming? The lot is relatively flat, but unpaved.
Thanks all, for a great forum., I have learned so much already.....

Now you've gone and done it. I am sure that they have spies that read the posts with the word "Argosy" in them!
Now they will show up at the pig roast with their unpainted Argosys!
How are we going to explain this at the super top secret Argosy meetings that we hold at the local Steak & Shake?

I had a 1977 Argosy 22. I think it was a bit heavy to be pushing around by any number of guys. Espeically in an unpaved area.
Have you seen the electric hand dollys that are manufactured just for this purpose? I am planning on getting one to move my Minuet into the backyard.
PM me and remind me to pull up my links on them for you.
