-e's Irvine Argosy - Manufacturer's Tags Reveal

For those possibly interested in more, and for those who can help me and others possible decipher the following Manufacturer's Tag Data, I have this:
Manufactured by: Airstream Cerritos, CA
Date of MNFR: 10 - 1977
V.I.N.: A20D8-S5057
P.A.# 9903
MFr. ID #: 80-4
GVWR: 4600 (Assumed Gross Vehichle Wt. Rear)
GVWR Front: 4450 (Assumed Gross Vehichle Wt. Trailer Tounge)

Grey Water Tank: Confirmed Holding Tank, Toilet, Shower, Lav. all in rear.
Original Parts throughout, but planned restoration continuously on hold, and now must sell and allow opprotunity to go to another.
Fought hard to locate small Airstream Travel Trailer for Restoration, back in late 1990's, thus know how lucky I was to acquire one then. We Gladly paid $4,800.00 to chirldren of deceased.

Photo's of Tags Posted?

I both took photos of exterior Manufacturers Tags, and uploaded to "AIR FORUMS" Web site, but not clear if they posted properly.

CAN YOU SEE THEM?
If not, email me and I'll reply with originals.

Wish I had a manual, or other good means and methods to decipher further.
Promise to take pictures of trailer and post further, in coming days.

buying unseen can be risky

For what it's worth, I did the exact same thing about 5 years ago where we bought a '74 27' overlander in original condition for that same price that looked a lot like this one. You should assume it's leaked for the past 10-15 years and there's probably some floor rot that'll need to be replaced, and i'm sure the furnace, WH, plumbing, refer, tires, shocks, and any other systems or pumps will also need to be replaced if it hasn't been used in a long time. I did most of the work myself, but after paying to chase leaks, replaceing a few windows, and all the other stuff in it, by the time i sold it i was into it for around $30k (including purchase price) total by the end. I know it could be done cheaper if you do everything, and we also replaced all the curtains and upholstery which wasn't cheap, but i realized quickly that for all the money i thought i was saving by paying $8k, i spent more time working on it than i did camping, and i wound up spending what i thought i was saving in not going with a newer one anyway. In the end, i sold it (for a loss), and got a 2007 in better shape, and with the layout i wanted, and even though it also came with it's own issues from being bought sight unseen, i definitely spend more time camping than renovating! Just my 2 cents, but if you're into the vintage, and want to customize your own airstream, if the body and floor are decent, you'll be hard pressed to find anything much cheaper than this one given their popularity. However I do think a freshly painted argosy looks pretty hot though! Good luck however you choose to go, once you're up and running you'll dig it!

Good price if there are no issues. Take a probe to inspect the floor for rot. Check the front door area, check front behind the fresh water tank, bath floor near bumper, under and around hw heater. Check frame rust..etc.
Worth about 3000 as is...with no inspections.
If it's near Memphis I will inspect for a small fee.

I have a '79 24' Argosy that I updated and is I am thinking about selling. I have replaced the axles, hot water heater, air conditioner and several other items. I put about $9,000 into it to give you an idea about what it will take to fix one up.

Well this is fun! Just have to chime in here with a few thoughts. Background, own a 76 Argosy 24 and a few Airstreams, career - 40+ years in high end and classic autos. Unless you are an expert/pro or have a huge reason for a particular vehicle buy a DONE car. The guy selling is always losing money, usually a lot, and you get to enjoy all his(hers?) hard work immediately.
Gray water tank, I remember snorting with laughter when I first saw the one in my Argosy, measured it at 12 gallons, now have 35 gallons.
Appliances, only replaced the hot water heater but the advice on the furnace is sound. Our fridge and A/C work great and stove is fine.
Hardest thing, resisting the urge to buy the first trailer you see, there are plenty out there. Just dropped my 68 Overlander on the ground yesterday after 8 months on the jack stands (with NO frame repair). Waited 6 months to buy that trailer and the price dropped buy 1/2.
My initial reaction is that the price is too high buy $2500, BUT, If the frame and floor are really good then maybe not so much. Try to go see it or have it checked out.
Best of luck... Mark D
