1985 Argosy Travel Trailer

I am new at this--my husband and I are restoring a 1985 model
Argosy Travel Trailer. In the front, at the base of the carriage
is a molded fiberglass underpenning or bumper that goes from
either side of the tongue to around the front corner. I need those
two molded pieces, any ideas on where I can get them. Thanks

Have you checked with Airstream, I don't know if they are still available but it is worth a shot. If not salvage yards or repair what you have. If they are just cracked you can reinforce them with fiberglass on the back. If they are really bad they can be used as a mold to make new ones of fiberglass.

Fiberglass underpenning--1985 Argosy Travel Trailer

I am really novice with computer, but here goes. I am trying
to repair the front underpenning of 85 Argosy travel trailer,
there is not enough to make pattern, most of it was destroyed.
Looking for a source for replacement. Thanks to 74Argosy24MH
for your suggestion, but I do need e-mail address or other to
get in touch with Airstream direct for a part, unless someone
out there has two good fiberglass front underpennings.
Thanks for any help.

i985 Argosy fiberglass front underpenning

Well, I see some folks are looking -- sure appreciate any leads
for these two pieces Thanks for the list of dealers will try them,
but thought because its over 10 years dealers probably wouldn't
have the part.

If any one comes up with the two fiberglass front pieces
please e-mail me at Victoriaantique@aol.com

Thanks

If you are talking about the front banana wraps, they are abs plastic on my '85 Sovereign. I would imagine they are the same for you Argosy. Mine are also in need of replacement. I checked with the dealer, and they can still get the parts. I just haven't had time to get up there to get it done.

1985 Argosy

Mark, thanks, I don't know if they are banana wraps?
It looks like fiberglass, maybe it is plastic, they were black
colored, they fit under an alumunin band that has a black
rubber strip inset in in, the black curved pieces attach to
the base of the white metal skin with rivits and to the
underneath thin metal bottom with rivits. They go from
the tongue to just around the front curve on each side.
Does this sound like what you are calling banana wraps?

I have emailed you the following:

Yes, you need the banana wraps. Here is a link to a dealer locater:
http://www.airstream.com/cgi-bin/dealerfinder/states.pl

There may be one near you. This is a do it yourself project. You will need to probably plan on replacing the rubber insert as well - it has to come out to expose the upper rivets and may not survive the operation. This, too, is available from the dealer.

I suspect you will find only the Airstream banana wraps are still available, and they are a dark brown. I thought the Argosy ones were, too, but if they are in fact black you can paint them.

If a local dealer seems uncooperative or ignorant, you can order from Airstream direct, or one of the dealers around the country that mail order. Andy at Inland RV is an active participant on this forum and has forgotten more than the rest of us will ever know.

Since this is an exterior project, you will need Olympic rivets, in my opinion. Some may argue that with the upper rivets hidden behind the rubber trim, and the lower ones being upside down, regular aluminum pop rivets will work.

Good luck,

Mark
