1976 22' Argosy .. Looking for specs on resto

Hi
New to the forum and have searched , but not finding the info i need.

While out looking at a old truck that i ended up buying .. i have gotten said trailer for a very fair price.
I just need to remove from the property.
This may be a blessing or the beginning of a curse

The owners father bought it , used it and then parked and sat.
At some point after lack of use , he decided it would make a better shed than a unused trailer.....
This is where it get's fun.
Sooo , he jacked up and placed the trailer on blocks and removed the axles...
1 of the reasons im posting.
And then gutted the unit of bath / kitchen and bed.
All interior panels are intact and good.
Stubs are there for plumbing.
There is a closet left only and all carpet was removed.
Plywood floor looks ok at initial inspection and unit appears dry.

The exterior / body is in good condition with no real dents or tears.
It will unfortunately need a corner glass..

The owner decided years ago it was best to scrap said axles .
So i have nothing there to look at , measure or take part numbers from...
And i need to put trailer on something to get it off the property ..

Im a mechanic by trade and not to scared of a resto..
This being a gutted unit to start is ok and ill build it out with new material and probably wont go for a period correct interior...

I need to know what the orig axles spec at for weight and or Part Numbers to start with .
Then i need to decide if i should up weight any on said axles if trailer may become heavier than orig...if that make sense

I have read a couple posts with the replacement of dexter axles and this is looking like what i'll buy

so
1. What are orig specs for axles .. weight / size for the 22 foot or link to specs / part numbers on the trailer
2. Need to know fact degree of axle i guess and if that changes with upgrades and poss increased weight ?

Sorry for long post and thanks for any info or links you can point me to.

The axle weight rating should be on your vin tag on the front of the trailer. They are usually around 3200# each. Should have a downward angle off 22 degrees but some prefer to go with more downward angle to get more ground clearance. The brakes are over-sized compared to a standard axle and use 6 bolt hubs. There is a fellow on the argosy facebook group selling axles very reasonably priced.

Thanks , I appreciate the info.

My Vin tag states GVWR 5300 lbs
GAWR front & Rear @ 2600 lbs ea
So a pair of 3500 lb axles should be more than sufficient with upgrades on interior ?

Is there a specified amount in the increase of angle to increase of the
height and weight ?

I tried to join the Airstream Argosy Owners on Facebook , but its been a week and haven't been admitted yet ... I'll look for the ad on axles if i get in

TIA

I tried joining that FB group too and still waiting ! Coin Hyde is the man for axles but very poor customer service skills, nice fellow if you can get him to reply ! Worth being persistent
