St. Louis newspaper Airstream Story

For those of you living in the St. Louis area or are subscribers to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Saturday July 3rd issue will have a feature story about Airstreams and 3 St. Louis owners. Just happens that those owners are three forum members, myself, Midamrail (Molly), and Tin Can Luv (Ron).

They probably took in excess of 400 pictures amongst the 3 of us and hours of interview time. We think it will end up a two page story with maybe 6 pictures and maybe a cover for the Life/Style section of the Saturday Post.

They talked to my wife about 2 hours and I'm sure they talked with Molly and her hubby Ben. I know Ron was interviewed but I'm not sure if Tony got to chime in. There was also an interview with the local dealer owner, Bill Thomas.

Bottom line we don't know what spin of the story will be, whether its will be hardware driven (new and vintage aspects) or will be why we ended up Airstreamers, who knows?

It should be interesting and we are quite curious as to what pictures they will use. In some cases we may regret this...

I know the web site does post the pictures if not the story, so I'll post the link Saturday morning.

Jack

Bad, BAD picture!

I've seen a photo of Ben and me that may be in the story, and it's not pretty. If only the photographer had just concentrated on photographing the trailers without us.

We may not get our paper out of the box by the road on Saturday.

Wow, the new Airstream Life and now this! Lots of good reading going on We'll look forward to the story spin and the pics, whatever they are, just because. . . well, because they feature some of our local Missouri Airstreamers and, of course, Airstreams! Congratulations, the three of you, for the coverage. Thanks for providing the link, though we may find a copy of the Saturday issue here in town.

Waiting....?anxiously?

Very curious to see myself. I actually have hesitated to tell anyone else, until I see the story.

Until then......

Seriously?

If so sure.

If the link is there Saturday you should be able to see the pictures and read the story.

My mistake

I litterally threw all of my tools into the garage, then the photographer arrived wanting to see me in action. So I tried to haul stuff back into the trailer, that I worked so hard to clean up. THen, neither of my two rivet guns were anywhere to be found. The battery on my drill was dead.

It was a nightmare. I was trying to look busy screwing (with a screwdriver) a door in...

It was a mess....

She didn't have much to ask me though. So, I am sure that Jack and Molly kept them busy writing...

Oh well, here is the link. Only three pictures on the web site, although I'll have to wait to see how it actually comes out in print. The story is fair but one major mistake says we honeymooned in our VW bus. Nope, we did start our camping life with one but I can tell you if their would have been no wedding or honeymoon if that had been the plans.

Thanks for the info on this article. You ALL did a great job getting the word out about Airstreamers.....Newspapers are sometimes short on space and don't cover the topic in depth as they should....this is an exception! GREAT ARTICLE!!

Thanks,
Levon

Very nice article, indeed!

Enjoyed reading through it. It really was nice to have met everyone at the Midwest Rally in June; makes the reading a little more personal!

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Mackanaw Rally, only a few days away!

Memories

Read the Article in the Post Dispatch and remembered as a kid traveling with a Silver Bullet behind us! Thanks for the Memories! (I personally considered it my Buck Rogers Spaceship)

Got me thinking though, I may be able to help anyone with Mattress and / or Cushion replacements, as I own a small mattress factory where we make custom sized beds, cushions etc. We make "regular" RV mattress replacements all the time but occasionally get the call to Help with restoration projects.

If anyone needs some help or has questions about such things....
Drop me an e-mail ! I can provide the "inside" story on mattresses and foam

Thanks Again,

Ed

Very good ariticle. I thought a bit of the timeline info was a bit off, but who knows.

Love the pic of Jack and Patty like the farmers with the pitchfork painting in front of their Classic.

I just wish there had been one picture of us smiling. That picture was posed to be deadpan serious. The story ended up being three pages long in the paper with three additional pictures. One of the side of our Classic with the slide out open, one of Midamrail's trailer with the rally flags mounted and a close up of Tin Can Luv polishing his trailer.

I think the writer picked up the timeline from an Airstream web site although I don't know which one.

I emailed the editior of the Life Style section to post some more pictures on their web site. Not one is yet to be found as of today.
