I think their program producers are the unbalanced ones...

Just watched it smash. What a waste. I didn't see the point of smashing the SUV or the trailer. Got everybody watching, though.

Complete idiocy. When they set up the scenario to test their rocket-powered emergency brake, they said, "You're on vacation, towing your trailer downhill, and suddenly the brakes go out. What do you do??" Both of us said simultaneously, "Use the trailer brakes!!" We found it interesting that the issue of tow vehicle vs. trailer brakes was never addressed at all.
And couldn't they have at least harvested the Zip Dee awnings before committing the murder?

What a waste.
Couldn't they have destroyed some crummy Mallard or something?
I was wondering if anyone could figure out year and model.
and the sad part is, they wrecked TWO of them. The one they drove off the cliff, and the one with the rockets attached.

By accident I caught just the last few minutes of Smash Lab this evening. What awful BS. You can tell they don't even believe what they are saying - it is all a big "put on" for TV. They just want to well . . . "smash things". Morons.
Well the worst part was that in this episode they strapped rockets to the side of a early 60's 30-foot Sovereign with seven panel end caps. I'm guessing it was a 1962 or 1963 model - you could see part of the original 6XXX Wally # above the rear window. Anyway, the morons then fired up the rockets - actually the rockets fired earlier than expected - the real tragedy was that no one was hurt in the process - maybe an accident would shut these morons down.
It seemed that the trailer survived, but I don't know if it was damaged. The roadway was scorched big time. They need to be put out of our misery for attempting to destroy a rare vintage Airstream. If not, I suspect the will find another way to destroy the trailer in a future episode. Morons.

There should be a law in the total destructions of Airstreams. Sub, Avions, Streamlines, and Silver Streaks. But keep Airstreams for the Ages.

I bet a Hensley would have saved this rig after going off a cliff.

I think I wasted an hour af my life! What more can be said? I sure could have used the awning for my trailer.
Thought the show was a loser just from the previews I've seen, now I know I was right.
No need to watch that again.

Airstreams are lighter than Avions. They should fly better.

If that was a 1962, the producers are going to learn all about smashing... smashing a legacy trailer is worse than burning the flag...

Bad
My son was on the shows web site as this was going on. Posters were slamming this episode and the whole series. No one likes the series. The show is just plain bad.

I started watching this show since the begining. IT was ok. After a few episodes it was getting repetative. I deleted it from the DVR to do list this morning.
As for wrecking the airstream. I am sure they went looking for an old trailer. They probably could not find an old SOB!
As for the shows theme and knock off of Myth Busters. Anyone who has been watching myth busters since the begining will see more and more things geting blown up. People like to see things get blown up, wrecked, etc . It sells air time.

One AS, or two destroyed?
I got to thinking about this yesterday. I kept trying to see details on the trailers to see what would fit mine before they blew it up. I think there was only one trailer. When the rocket thing went bad at the end, they didn't have anything smashed to put on the show.
So they painted the tow vehicle blue (notice the fresh shiny paint) and drove it off the cliff. Then they stood around and made up some dialoge about what they will do on the "next" one.
What a ripoff. Completely contrived. At least they only killed one AS.

Two AS potentially destroyed!
The photo sequence at the top of this thread shows a 70's era Airstream ging off the "dune". This agrees with what I think I saw on the commercial before this episode aired. The '62 or '63 was a surprise, and since it is much rarer that a 70's AS, it is a bigger tragedy, although both are losses.

Rocket Brakes
It was rerun tonight. Two different Airstreams and 2 Burbs were test victims. But the rocket brakes fired prematurely before the brake test began and the second TV and Airstream were spared.
