Airstream sighting--AZ Star today

In today's AZ Daily Star's Home section there is an article and pics of an Airstream used as a guest house and for travel.

go to www.azstarnet.com and click on the Home section of the Star.

But the trip also revealed impracticalities. Gasoline cost up to $100 daily, and campgrounds charged from $12 to $50 a night, depending on amenities.
That sounds kind of high. I'm guessing a Lincoln would get around 10 mpg. At an avg. of $1.50 per gallon, that would mean that they are traveling about 650 miles per day. That is a lot of driving! It can be done, but I wouldn't think it would be much fun!

Thumbs down Impracticality Silly Quote

The delta difference in gasoline cost is not that much pulling a trailer or not pulling a trailer and once you get to your destination what are you going to find to stay in without a trailer at the upper end of $50--a rat infested flea trap? Did that quote come from the owners or a naive reporter?

Nice trailer though.

Not that we don't think gas costs are not a factor in traveling but you are right......what you going to stay in? The same places where the RV Parks are $45-60 the hotels and motels are commensurate

The people should be accustomed to "the guzzler".....our Expedition gets 11.5 mpg at it's best towing. I think the Navigator probably has the same 5.4L engine. Do dads weigh quite a bit and I think Navigators are loaded.

Nice idea. My Tradewind was a guest house in it's previous life.

But there's no such thing as a '58 Tradewind, is there?

Thanks for the posting Kistler. I'll have to contact these folks and see if I can get their serial number. They have a '59 Trade Wind like mine. 1959 was the first year of the TradeWind although it was more than likely made in the latter half of 1958. I'm compiling a serial number list of all of the '59 TradeWinds I can find.

They have a listed phone in the Tucson phone book. I hesitate to "publish" it here but if you have trouble I could send you a private message/email.
