Airstream on American Pickers

Just saw the end of a segment on the History Channel show American Pickers, and the guy they were visiting in N. Carolina had a really old camper, maybe a Bowles Aero(sp?). It had the door up over the hitch. Should be back on at 11pm central again. What was it? Did anybody else see it?

They kept calling the Bowles an Airstream. Kind of surprised the producer did not catch that error before it aired.

First time I ever caught the show, so it will now be on my watch list. It was definitely a Bowles no matter what they called it. Oh, the uninformed; if its aluminum, its an Airstream. It was mostly all there and needed some work but $75,000 is a bit steep in my way of thinking.

The producer probably didn't know the difference. Someone saw aluminum and automatically thought AIRSTREAM.
Has anyone really pinned down the fact that it was a Bowles. I knew it wasnt AIRSTREAM.
They guy wanted that so bad he could taste aluminum. Then when the guy sprung the price on him I thought he was gonna faint.

I thought $7,500.00 was ok, but I was thinking there can't be many of those around. The guy should have said from the start this is "not for sale". I really was hoping the Pickers would end up with it, but $75,000 I just started laughing.

What would be a fair price for that trailer can someone weigh in and let us know.

There was one Bowles that was restored at the Alumapaloosa and the factory owns one, but it hasn't been restored yet...I think they just got it.

With Wally Byam having worked for Bowles in the '30s there is a connection.

I've seen that place...

Saw the episode on tonight. That looks like the guy off Highway 27 near Red Cross, NC. I pass through there every couple of months on the way to Albamarle. Neat looking place, never stopped but that will have to change the next time through.

New American Pickers Airstream

The pickers are in Arizona in tonight's episode and are trying to buy a '48 Airstream. Success! $8000! Looks to be in pretty good shape, but its missing some windows. Serial number 5003. Cool!

Cool that tonight's '48 find was nearly completely original. She was sure sweet looking. Think they can really get $14,000 for her in that condition?

That '48 belonged to my friend Steve who was the one they called on the phone. I tried to get him to send me pictures or to go and see it with him but he never could come with either. Yea, it was in really good shape.

Hook up and tow

I realize it's television but didn't realize you could just hook up that 48 with no windows and just sail on down the highway.... guess they haven't read all the cautionary tales here

Just saw the show, man was that 48 sweet. Anybody know what model it was? It was pretty amazing how they just hooked up to it and drove away. You think it needs a new axle?

The axle on the 48 had leaf springs. It didn't look that bad on the show. I would bet that you could go down to the local NAPPA store and get new bearings and seals.
