Year of 'wide body'?

Question: What year did they start making the 'wide body' A/S?
Now that I've got my 31' '75 done and a fall trip (3500 miles) under my belt, am thinking of what to do with my time this winter - thought of getting a 25' or 27' - easier to haul around - would keep the 31' for longer stays - love the extra room - but not the long length for maneuvering. Thought the extra width would be nice - get two rear beds the same width!, etc.
Any thoughts or help - Thanks

Wide bodies started in 1995. Mid year change.
