Towable?

We just purchased a 1978 International 31' center bath rear twin and need to tow it 6 hours just to get it home. It has no water/waste in it, or clothing, etc., nor does it have propane tanks (just couches, fridge, beds, etc.). The dry weight is listed as 4810 lbs, and a tongue weight of 545 lbs, GVWR 7100 lbs. We have a 2005 Dodge Dakota 4x4 quad cab, High output V8, with a hitch the dealer claims should have no problem hauling the trailer. We are new at this, and there are so many variables that I don't even know about (from reading a lot of these forum questions). My question is... Will my truck haul this trailer ok (on a relatively flat drive) the 6 hours to get it home?

It'll haul it, but do you have a brake controller? You'll need it to stop the dang thing.

Ray says hauling it won't be the problem. Stopping might. I'm just answering for him cause he's pulling ours as I write.

Hello Cegath and welcome to the airforums!

Your question is.. will your 2005 Dodge Dakota pull your new trailer? I would say yes it will. You should have no problems with that vehicle however.. there are some questions about the hitch setup and the ability to stop that trailer if you had to? Is this vehicle setup to tow beyond having a reciever installed? Weight distribution etc..

How are the tires/ bearings on the trailer? Has somebody inspected this unit for you? Maybe somebody with more experience can give you some help onsite?

Vinnie
