Tailights
For some reason both covers on the combination rear clearance/side marker lights were missing when I bought my Soverign a few weeks ago. Any idea where you can find stuff like that?
Thanks

Tailights
Greetings Marc!
I would suggest starting with your nearby Airstream dealer as a source for the lenses for your clearance lights. I recently purchased an entire new set of lenses for all of the exterior lights on my '78 Argosy Minuet to have as spares. My regular Airstream dealer, Ace Fogdall RV in Cedar Falls, Iowa was able to source all of the lenses. They also have a web site and webstore, and both Florence and Christy in the parts department are quite familiar with Vintage Airstreams. The web address is:
Ace Fogdall RV, Cedar Falls, Iowa
Good luck in locating the lenses that you need!
Kevin

We are replacing all of the clearance and tail lights on our 71 Overlander (actually, that is the project for today) and my husband bought all of them from NAPA. They are identical to the ones that were on there when we bought it.
The clearance lights were in-stock but they had to order the tail and back up lights. They arrived in 2 days.
Good Luck!

Tailights
The part number is 510104. I can't tell if that includes the lens. I'll probably do as the previous responder suggests and find an airstream dealer to see if they have a full set to keep on hand. I have no airstream dealer close here so I'll probably shop online.

The entire assemblies are available at a good parts house such as NAPA just as previously said. I believe the brand is "Signal-Stat". You might as well replace the entire lamp, lense and socket base. I guess you could get them from Airstream as well but would probably pay much more, I got mine, the clearance lamps, for 4 bucks a piece, complete, from a local truck supply.

We replaced the lenses only. I can't locate the reciept but I think the clearance lenses were around $1.50 each and the brake and backup lenses were a little over $3.00. I know he spent a total of $60 but he had a couple of other non-AS items on the ticket as well.
I have the NAPA parts #'s if anyone is interested.

NAPA part numbers
Yes, if you have the numbers please share them. That would save time at the counter and I wouldn't need to take the other lenses in to match up.
Thanks.

It would be nice if folks who love so much to post pictures of their units would include a shot dead on from the rear. Far enough back to illustrate the tailight assemblies.
I will do so as soon as I am camera/picture/post capable.
On our 74 Excella the tail lamp assemblies look like they would not be available from a NAPA store. Hope we are wrong about that of course. I have always thought that the Excella was just a gussied up Sovereign.
Clearance lights are more generic I suppose & quite common and I am sure available at a number of places.
Our service manual does not even mention the word Excella, but shows all the other names and data in same book.
However there is a hardback "owners manual" that is specific in saying Excella 500. It is more fluff than data though.

Thanks for this posting. I'm having the same problem. I cannot find the correct assembly for one of the lights in the assembly. They are shot on both sides. Napa does not carry them and the RV store nearby doesn't have them either...

Thanks Cloud.
I'm sure it has been asked before but what is the 53 Flying Cloud? another Airstreaam of yours?
The striping on your pictured trailer is very attractive. Is it the stock layout or have you customized?
The lower rub rail appears to be a double hump design??? Or is that just an illusion in the photo?
And the beltline, Is that the same insert size? or is the wide area all an insert with a blue stripe painted on ?
I also see your 84Sovereign is a 29 footer.
When did they drop from 31'? And was there a 84Overlander as well?
Actually I guess you ought to post that picture and answer this under a 84 Sovereign catagory if one exists, and if you care to.
Maybe a forum moderator can move my reply over there too.
Thanks

LED Tail Lights
Has anyone converted their tail lights to LED units? I understand that Airstream has a kit to convert them for $25 each (4 are required).

I bought the kits at the International Rally, then returned them because I bought a new (2005) trailer. Later, I wish I had kept the kits since the 2005 came with bulbs. I'll probably buy the upgrades at next year's Homecoming.

I bought a LED taillight kit from Carquest last weekend that was made for a boat trailer, all I used was the lens and the inside LED housing, I had to sand aprox 1/8" off each side and open up the hole pattern slightly and trim the corners on the inside housing, other than that, they look awesome , well worth the trouble of installing them, they were $50.00 for 2 lights, part. like I said, they look great ,so much better than original,
