New to the group 1975 AS Sovereign

Hello everyone,

I just picked up a 1975 Sovereign 31ft. I needs a lot of TLC to get it back to shape. I'll be towing from Tucson to San Diego in the next few days. Put some new tires on it so far.

I'm looking for recommendations and ideas for towing this thing. It's my first time.

There is a lot of useful information on the web about towing ASs in particular and towing in general. When we bought our ASs a couple of months ago, even though I've towed a lot in the past, I found it a useful review and beneficial for the co-pilot/navigator who has never towed. An example:

New tires is a good start. By the DOT code on ours one them could have been original.
In no particular order ...
Not sure what you're towing with, but a brake controller will allow you to adjust the braking so that the TV isn't doing the majority of the work.
The 7 pin cable may or may not be wired the same as your tow vehicle, but you'll need those trailer lights and electric trailer brakes.
Trailer and truck both level once hooked up is the ideal.
You can check the brakes for function by getting a wheel in the air, disengage the breakaway switch and try to rotate the wheel - it should not. You could also adjust the brakes at this time.
Repacking the wheel bearings is a good idea, but not necessarily absolutely needed.
Wind may or may not be a problem based on TV and/or hitch.
Take it easy.

Take lots of tools and a good floor jack and don't get in a real big hurry when you tow

Welcome to Airstreaming! We got ours a little over a year ago. Wiring info-white is ground,green is clearance and tail lights,Brown is rt turn and stop,red is left turn and stop,black is backup,blue is main power forA/S,yellow is for A/S brakes. A good place to get a service manual is "Airstreammmanuals@gmail.com. Best $60 bucks I've spent. You can find owner's manuals on line for around $15 another great investment. Also this forum rocks!

Welcome! Hope you have as much fun with yours as we do ours. There's always something to fix. Use the forum classifieds for what you need and place a want ad. The parts will find you. Towing. Take your time pulling the grade from El Centro over the mountain. Otherwise make sure you have enough mirrors on the Tow Vehicle to see rearward. A brake controller like a Tekonsha P3 would make the downhill ride a bit easier too.
