Need Restoration

My husband is looking for someone to restore his 1974 - 32 ft. Land Yacht ... it hasn't left the back yard since 1981 ... we live near Daytona/Orlando, FL ... it's getting greener & greener with mold inside & out ... help!

I picked up a '75 Sovereign two years ago and am finally getting time to work on it this spring. Love the room, compared to my Caravel. The one thing your '74 doesn't have is a gray water holding tank. That's a big modification and not worth it if you plan on being hooked up in an RV park most of the time.

I'm looking at a manual for the 74 and it shows a gray tank. It drains from the same valve as the black water. I haven't picked up the one I bought, but I think I would install an additional drain, on the gray tank, that would fit a garden hose, possibly a pump with two one way valves.

1974 was the first year for the gray tank. My 31-footer has a whopping 10 US gallon one.

There are two separate drain valves that share a common exit pipe. The pipe uses Thetford style fittings, and one way to terminate the pipe is to get the fitting that closes the pipe and leaves a garden hose connector.

Now, what is it you are trying to do by installing the additional drain, and pump?

Zep is rarely wrong IIRC but he missed on this one. All '74s were supposed to have grey tanks.
More interesting would be what became of the '74 rehab project mentioned above ??

I didn't realize it had two different valves, that helps. I still thinking of adding the additional drain to go through a pump. I would imagine having the option to pump gray water far away or over an obstacle would be nice for boondocking. I could also pump gray water into a tank in my truck bed. I think having that option for the black water, would open a whole world of possibilities.
I would probably have to pump gray water with the black, to get it to work, and add a merciator? I could have a fresh water tank/bag on the truck as well. It might have to be down the road before any of that would happen.

Has anybody heard of a bag style "blue boy/tank". I've seen the fresh water bags, I'm not sure of a good brand, I imagine the water taste like plastic in some.

I'll go one step further and say that grey/gray tanks were an option in '73.

If you do ever buy a '74 trailer, I'm willing to bet that you'll have so many OTHER things to do FIRST that it will be years before you think of making those mods.

Besides, you can buy off the shelf a water-powered macerator (Google "Sewer Solutions") that will give you three feet of lift, if you ever want to pump into the bed of your truck.

In the meanwhile, just learn to live within the limits of the built-in tanks; that'll give you time to do the other repairs you'll need done...

It's bought and paid for, I just haven't picked it up. 1800ish miles away/time/money. I'm thinking of putting it up for sale... It's too nice, for what I want to do. I would like to build an extremely efficient, warmer, toned down, "SS" type. I just won't feel right until I have my hands on every part of the trailer, so I might as well rescue a shell.

I just don't want to admit to myself that those long hot showers are going to be a thing of the past. I wanted to "go green", this will just force me.

Well heck, if you own one, why don't you update your profile so it shows?

If this is your first one, another suggestion would be to live in the one you bought for a while to get a better feel for what the coach is about before you make a lot of decisions.

Plus if you want to live green, living within the current limitations of the trailer might let you see what sacrifices you are comfortable making.

Just a thought, it's your to do as you please, of course...

But at least post a few photos, please?
