Interior photos of '74 Sovereign

Here are some interior shots of our new AS. We took out some of the carpet shortly after we took these. We plan on eventually trying out come cork flooring in her.

We plan on repositioning the couch bed and taking out the front portion of the couch.

She looks very nice to me. If she could only talk... the stories she could tell.

Began the tearout

Well, we don't plan a full Monte right now, but we have taken our most of the front living area. We will get rid of half the couch and keep the half that makes into a bed. We will turn it across the front of the trailer and make some cabinets behind and on each end.

We are going to put down something cheap for temporary flooring for now, and plan to install cork flooring later on, when we tear our the rest of the carpet. The floor decking is in pretty good shape. No significantly soft spots, in spite of my worries over some heavy stains on the floor.

I repositioned and secured the refrigerator today. It hardly had a screw holding it in place, and had slid a half an inch away from the wall. A few new screws and some elbow grease and that whole section of cabinet is much firmer and looks better.

Can anyone tell me if this is some kind of water filter? If so, what brand, and can you get replacement filters for it?

It looks to be about 6" high.

Thanks,
Stephen

That looks like a water filter. Not sure if it is serviceable but here is a recent thread showing one.

It is the original water filter, and if you ever find the cartridges for it, please let us know? I've looked at length and couldn't even find a single reference to it anywhere, except questions like "What is this?"

Nice trailer, and the best interior, IMHO. L-shaped gauchos, mid bath with rear singles.

Why did you take out the front couch, BTW? I would LOVE to have that much seating in our '74 Sov!

Yep that is the optional water filter and it has value to us originalists. The filter can be bought from the factory as well as Inland RV, and few others. Please put the L-lounger back in...they are reletively rare.

Thanks for the info, I'll look around for the replacement filter. I guess if I can't find one, I'll have to replace it with a modern model.

Taking out the L-lounger was mostly out of necessity. We (me, wife, 2 kids) plan on full-timing for awhile while I am travel nursing. We needed to open up a little more room. I personally really liked the sofa, and like old things in their original state, but we need a bit more floor space. It was hard taking out that first screw, but once everything was moved, I got excited about what we could do with the space.

Well, I am working 12 hour shifts for the next few days as I did today. I spent all my spare time thinking about our Airstream. Can't wait to get back to work on her!

Later,
Stephen

It's a canister for the #150 charcoal filter, they're available, blue in color.

Okay, I wonder if this is the right filter?

I can't find where it says what models it fits.

It seems from what I can find that this filter fits the Everpure C1-RV filter housing. I found a couple of other sources online for these, but don't know how trustworthy they are. If anyone knows if this is the same unit as I pictured above, please let us know.

Stephen,

All kidding aside (and emotion for having things old too, I understand "practical"), keep all those parts you are taking out.

When you have lived with the trailer more, you will realize that, especially with four people as you are, room to sit comfortably together will be harder to find than "floor space".

So go ahead and do what you please, just keep those parts for when you change your mind.

Hi Stephen!

Looks like you got a nice one to work with.

I just got a 1974 Sovereign -exactly- like yours 2 weeks ago. Woohoo!
It's my first Airstream and I'm planning to fix it up and go mostly full-timing as well.

I agree with Aage about the Lounge. My Sovereign actually has no lounge at all and I would love to give yours a nice home (wink wink) but ultimately I think you should keep it as is. It's the best configuration for the Sovereign IMHO.

I would feel too guilty asking you for your lounge but I wonder if it would be possible to remake my own L-lounge from photos of yours?
I've looked for CAD plans for AS lounges but I've found nothing for the L-Lounge.

Any way, I wish you the best with your renovation and I'll be watching your progress as I begin my own '74 reno...

Cheers!
Craig
