Tried two new things!
Well we have had the trailer for just over a year. Finally decided to try a couple things we had not used before.
1) We hooked up the shade awnings that came with the trailer from the PO. Lordy why did we wait so long! (actually, we had tried these once before but did not need them so we just put them away and forgot about them) Shaded both sides of the trailer and created a shaded patio with plenty of room under the awning for our chairs and for the grandkids to play. These are awesome! They went up and came down easily, and once staked down, helped stiffen the awnings against the wind. We figured we were going into stealth mode and no one would be able to see us. NOT.
2) First time we (she) used the oven. Two cobblers fit in there just fine and came out perfect! Very nice to know it works!
We were at Breckenridge Recreation Area on Lake Texana. Right across the street from the Lake Texana State Park. Budget cuts are forcing the state to close Lake Texana State Park and Breckenridge will take over Sep 1. So if you want to get in while it is still a State park, go soon.
Great place to go. Our views were spectacular, and we constantly had a good breeze. Thanks Sandlapper for a great flag pole holder. The holder got a good test this weekend! But the alligators scared me a bit. I know, I know, everybody there said they will not mess with you...and I saw kids swimming and canoeing...but I did see some small (5 or 6 ft) gators so my kayaks stayed on top of the truck. Call me sissy..

Looks like a nice place to camp. You might see some swamp people there. Choot 'em Junior! Choot 'em! Those solar shades are cool. Yes, pun intended. Glad you had a great weekend!

Looks like a beautiful place and a great trip! We don't have an oven in our little Bambi, but seeing that cobbler kinda makes me wish we did
Great photos...thanks for sharing them!

We probably should have heated that thing up once before we tried it for real. (kidding) This old trailer continues to amaze me...

In our first RV, a 1977 barth, the oven had been replaced with a microwave.
I was always rather fearful of using the propane burners, afraid everything would blow up.
We don't have an oven in the interstate, but do quite well without it. A small and a large Dutch oven bakes anything we need, and are especially good for cobblers.

Well, nothing blew up (whew) and we also have a dutch oven that Skye can make a great cobbler in, but it was 90 degrees outside where the fire pit was. Lots cooler in the trailer. :-)

3 Questions about these shade awnings:
1. Where can they be purchased?
2. How do they connect with the awnings (I can't tell from the photos).
3. Looks like they're anchored into the ground. Is this correct?

Ok, I think I found them on the Zip Dee website. Following are a couple links:
1. Solar Shade

2. This looks pretty nice also => Tropic Room

1. These came with the trailer from the PO when we purchased it. Skye is trying to find out where they got them. We do know that they came from down in the valley at a flea market. She has a couple mails out now. And I bet they will be cheaper than Zip Dee. Good airflow, you can see thru them and man they make it cooler (lots cooler)
2. See pics for attachment rail. Don't know if the rail is standard on the awnings. The screens have long, round piece of rubber sewn into the top that slides right into the slot on the rail.
3. They have metal grommets on the bottom and sides so they can be staked down at an angle as we did. They are also heavily reinforced on the bottom so if you brought them straight down you could fold the bottom under and lay something heavy (buckets of water?) on them to hold them down. They also make end caps but we do not have those...
We ran ratcheting straps from the ends of the big awning down to the ground. Then hooked up the cloaking devices (shade screens sounds so lame) and anchored them down with stakes. The wind was pretty hard and did not let up too often. It was hitting the awning at an angle but actually was pushing the screen down so it pulled down on the awning. Without the screens it would have been trying to lift it. On the street side it actually was trying to lift it, but we had bungees at each end of the awning on that side to help the center strap, so no problem...
