Replacing antenna

I just wanted to let anyone with the pleasure of owning a 86 Soveriegn that when you need to replace the skyway attenna the cable wiring appears to be regular cable and not the older 2 ohm wire.

As you can see I am not a technical guy, but most of the reasons people don't replace the old skyway seem to be because they have to fish new cable wire through the walls.

I don't really want to replace the skyway, but it is frozen and I am pretty sure leaking and can't see an option.

When we replaced the Skyliner antenna in our trailer, it was leaking and frozen. Ours also had holes corroded in the roof under the antenna base, which is where it was leaking from. Yours may be similar, it would not jurt to know where some sheet aluminum is, in case you need it to complete your replacement.

I just purchased my 1986 31' Sovereign and I am new to the Airstream world. What is the (skyway) Skyliner antenna? Thanks for your information. Bill

Replacing the original antenna with a bat wing antenna was a simple procedure. Just a few tools and a ladder. The reception is much better.

willy d,

Sorry I was not monitoring this thread. Looks like you had a relatively easy installation. Congratulations.

I have had mine on for around 9 months and it works great. Next step, the radio attenna on the curbside. All the plastic is rotted away, but still functions fine, so I will wait.

Hi, willyd.

the Skyliner antenna is for TV reception. So, in what, 2009? They'll all be trash anyways...
