Good Cost??

My wife and I have come across a 25' Sovereign, 1985 for sale. It is out of our driving distance, but the seller is willing to ship to us. From the pictures I can see, it looks to be in good to excellent condition. There are a few dings on the outside, but nothing major. The interior looks immaculate and original. I don't have any pictures of the underside or mechanicals.
They are asking 1900 and it sounds too good to be true.
Any thoughts?

I know it's going to need some work, ie. bearings, lube, possible rust, etc. but does that low of a price sound wrong?

Any thoughts would be very helpful. Thanks
Eric

I have seen a LOT of Craigslist scam listings for an '85 Sovereign 25, at just about that price. I suspect you'd find that if you ask them to let you or an AIRForums volunteer inspect the trailer prior to purchase, they'll tell you it's "already at the escrow company's warehouse, and they'll deliver it to you and you'll have X days to inspect it and get all your money back if you don't want it."

SCAM.

Usually people ask too much for a used Airstream because even they may not know everything wrong and what it costs in time and money to fix them.

If you aren't sure what to look for, get some help and go physically inspect it. Photos tend to make things look much better than they are. And don't reveal musty and sewer smells that may be imbedded into the thing.

Thanks guys, inspecting it is out, since it is in nevada (supposedly) and we are in Texas. The lady claims she got divorced and wants to sell it through amazon something or other. Just like ya said, 10 days to inspect after delivery and we could get a full refund if not happy.
Sounded too good to be true and it seems like you may have seen the same add. shame, it looks great.
I think I'll ask her if a friend can come inspect it and see what she says.
Thanks again.

I have seen many different ads in TX, OK, AR and LA craigslist sites. All the same photos (seems to be inside some sort of warehouse) and all similar prices. Sometimes they screw up and paste in the ad copy from one of their other scams, so they'll have the Airstream in the title and photos, but the ad copy will be talking about a pickup or a 4-wheeler, etc.

1900 probably wouldn't even cover the shipping. If it was me, I would run, not walk, away from this deal.

I'll go look at it for you if its in Northern NV...Reno, Tahoe etc. I'm in the Bay Area. I'll bet she won't even bite at that offer though. A quicker way to shut these folks down would be for CL to require VIN numbers in all auto related ads. Simple, free online vin check will tell you if they are on the up and up...at least half the time anyway.
