1986 25' Sovereign Purchase

My first post did not make the trip so here it is again. I just bought a 25' Sovereign today and will pick it up March 30 in Atlanta. It has the same layout as j54Mark has, the rear double bed/curbside vanity. It comes with the Hensley Arrow hitch which sweetened the deal.

Thanks. As soon as my older son gets in, I will figure a way to move the pictures from a site that has them now. I don't want to mess up anything and need to straighten out a few of the pictures. The Sovereign is lying on its side in some of the exterior and interior pictures and they need to be rotated. My computer does not have that program but my son's computer does.

It will be tough to wait but I have a bunch of polishing to do on the '77 between now and then to get it ready for sale. That should keep me busy and my mind off the 25'.

We have really enjoyed ours. However, we did not "come down" from a 31' coach. I hope you will find it roomy enough. I do think you will find the storage to be excellent.

Mark, I have 4 wardrobe cabinets in the 31'. One has hunting clothes/raincoat/heavy shirts in it, one has turkey hunting stool and turkey decoys, one has camping stools, lantern and original vacuum motor; the last is full of empty boxes for goodies I have bought for the camper. Why I keep them is beyond me. I figured that I could do without all the extra space in the front entrance area as well as the 2 wardrobe cabinets just before the bathroom area. Those cabinents are almost 2 ft. wide so I could do without around 6 ft. of space and still be fine. 31'-6'= 25' but I didn't want to go shorter due to the layout I wanted. I have all kinds of space under the mid bed and over both sides of the mid area that don't have anything in them but a couple of fishing rods. I also calculated that the trailer would be at least 300 lbs. less in tongue weight and less than 1,000 lbs. in tow weight. My 2500hd with 8.1 tows the trailer fine so I can't wait to see what the Hensley and lighter weight trailer will do.

We should have coordinated

I just bought my 186 25' in Nashville and brought it back to Atlanta. Boy, do I love this trailer! I have had a 1978 and a 2004 and finally found the one that is "just right."

Cool Mid 80's 25' YEAH!!

I sincerely hope that after a few years you have had as many wonderful miles and hours of enjoyment as I have had from my 25’.

I wouldn’t think of a late model. I appreciate the narrower body for vision while driving. The interior is just right for me. I have had many trailers and motor homes (gas & diesel) over the years, and still like dragging the 25’ around the best.

Good Luck with Yours!

Funny how that works out. I'm still lovin' the trailer and plan on adding solar panels next year along with stainless lower panel segment protectors and new aluminum rims.

Although my 25 is just sitting in the driveway, I can't help noticing some of the really nice features. I do agree with you all that the floor plan is very well done with much more storage than any of my other trailers had. Another benefit of the narrow width is that I got about .5 mpg better mileage than my 22' 2004. In todays dollars that probably saved me $100 coming back from Nashville.

Since you now get better gas mileage towing your 25', hope you will consider joining the group at Georgia Mountain Fair at Hiawassee the weekend of Oct. 21 & 22. Many of us arive on Fri. and then leave on Sunday. Bring yourself or family. Fun is had by all and nothing is really structured. Sometimes we have a short maintenance discussion/display, hiking, canoeing, comparison of modifications we have done with our trailers, musical entertainment by those who are much more qualified than myself and then a big dinner on Sat. night where everyone brings something to be shared by everyone. There are some great cooks in this bunch. We have anywhere from 12-15 trailers/motorhomes show up and have an unofficial rally at least twice a year (April & October).

unofficial rally

That sounds like a lot of fun and is the perfect time of year to be in the GA mountains. I do have one slight problem. My wife will be having our second child around October 6th so I might be a little hard pressed to get them to come along.
Please keep me posted as April comes around next year and thanks.

I just bought a 1986 Sov 25'. I plan to tow with a Chevy Silverado but I also have a 1982 Landcruiser and a third car with a 5000 lb limit. I'm going to see what I can modify to lighten the load without compromising comfort and function.
