Question Who to trust in Southern California

We just bought a 1981 27' (?) Excella and we would like to have someone go through and tell us what needs to be done. Can anyone recommend a trustful/knowledgible place in Southern California? We live in San Marcos, but would be will to go 100 miles or so to get some honest answers.

Benchmark RV in LA area

They are not an airstream dealer but very knowledgable about RVs and trailers. They have been taking care of our 1985 345 Motorhome for the last year.

Rob.

Airstream has it's list of authorized dealers available.

The key to repairs on Airstream products is using original parts. Non dealers cannot purchase parts from Airstream, but must buy them from an Airstream dealer. That usually results in you paying more for the parts.

We have been in Corona for 24 years with them.

Your serial number says you have a 1982 27 foot Excella 2, rear bath twin, with a left front lounge.

Southwest Coaches

I just purchased my AS from Southwest Coaches. They are right at the 405/5 interchange (the Y) off of Sand Canyon. With not a ton of experience with them as far as repairs I can tell you the dealings I have had with Dwaine (I think I spelled his name correctly), the service manager have been very good. He knows what he is talking about with any question I've thrown at him. They are number 1 in sales with AS and I don't suppose they could do that if they had a horrible repair facility. I would hope they would be better than others.
Good Luck

Try C&G Trailer in Bellflower, www.CGTrailer.com.

They have been around for many years specializing in Airstream and are widely known by the seasoned Airstreamers.

Welcome to the Forums neighbor!
We live in Cardiff and when we first got our Tradewind we had no, and I mean NO, idea what we needed to do! We heard about a place in Mira Mesa, RV Specialists, that we used to go through our systems and analyze our priorities. They are not Airstream Only mechanics but they were very helpful and sensible with their recommendations. With a little time and experience under our belts, we now know that they did very well by us. We've been very happy with their work and their prices! (That's not to say that it was CHEAP but we think it was reasonable.) Good luck and hope to see you out on the road soon!

I just called CGT to ask a ton of questions. What a quality place. The guy on the phone was polite and knowledgable AND told me how to save money! A ton of money too. I don't own an Airstream yet so I was calling him about one I was considering and I told him that. Even so he gave me 20 minutes of his time and knowledge. Needless to say when the time comes they will get my business.

I second C&G - really helpful people and great service.
I'd never go back to Metro RV in Burbank.

I have an appointment with C&G in two weeks for misc. warranty work on my 2007 Safari. I'll see about posting my assessment in about a month.

Have to agree, there's nothing for any Airstream owner here in San Diego county.

Cheers,
-jd.

Dwaine (I think I spelled his name correctly), the service manager have been very good. He knows what he is talking about with any question I've thrown at him.

We took our new trailer up to Southwest for a few small things and were impressed with Dwaine and Jason too. They were able to get us in right away (local dealer had 3-4 week wait) and they took their time with us and did an excellent job on the trailer.

BTW-Why don't some of you guys head up to Vail Lake in Temecula for the Winter Rally in January. Nice group of folks and we would love to meet more of the Southern Cal Streamers.

Another endorsement for SW Coaches. I count three highly-endorsed places:
* C&G
* Inland RV
* Southwest Coaches

Any one of these businesses would do just fine opening a shop in San Diego county (hint, hint!) seeing as how there's literally no alternative for anyone who values their rig...

For myself, I've a Saturday morning appointment with C&G in a week; I'm thinkin' of heading up that-a-way Friday night and camping out by their doorstep. (The Saturday window is small, so I want to be there early and have plenty of time to go over stuff.) Anyone have thoughts about just overnight parking out on the street by C&G?

Oh I would love to do my first rally with you, goin camping, and all the rest of the Calstreamers -- Temecula is close, and I used to live there, too!

*sigh* But that rally conflicts with my own, week-long outing to South Grand Canyon (first time). Just might be able to stop by on the way home, though...just looking into itinerary now: would enjoy any pm's with January GC suggestions/tips!

Cheers,
-jd.

They are an excellent company.

Ask for Fred Donson, the owner.

My experiences

C&G is great for service. Excellent work, quick turn around. Simple straight forward info and advice, very honest.

Inland RV is great for parts, and info advice on vintage AS questions.

C & G A bit of Airstream History

Here were two of the finest workers that ever worked at the Airstream factory on Main Street and then Santa Fe Springs. One a foreman in the cabinet shop, Chuck, and George in the metal shop. It was a loss when they left in the 60's.

Though Chuck and George are gone their tradition is carreid on. They taught their families and workers well.

I would have never expected nothing but the top of the line repair and modification from them, and their family

There is a pride knowing the work that is being done today is top drawer, for I knew George and Chuck.

PeeWee,

Thanks so much for the quick bit of history about C & G, we have been there multiple times and never knew the background story of Chuck and George.
