Only folks who have seen Steve & Amy's '56 Caravanner's custom (by the P.O.) bathroom would know that it was 4' x 6' and would fit 10-12-14 people. Take that (bam - biff - boom) to the chin all the newer mini-wet bath Airstreams!

The GVWR is for towing. Static weights can be higher as you are not exercising road shock and movement to the running gear.
In all things, of course, common sense prevails.

Rivettes
When all of the "Rivettes" went on our personal JC factory tour during our Summer Solstice rally, we got to see these new ones on the line. Very nice to see that the weight is coming down some. These are virtually like the vintage Argosy types, but of course naked!!! LOL Lots of more modern materials, but pretty similar it setup, including the tambour doors. The ones we saw looked just like our little Minuet...size wise!

Do you think they use different axles from US-Canadian? Or just simply state the GVWR lower (US) for more tow vehicle compliance?

Joe, where does $250 come from? When I purchased my Airstream, I had the dealer install a road side and rear awning and the rear awning alone was more than $250! I don't have my notes in front of me, but I think the road side awning was around $1,400 (don't quote me on that price, it may have been more). Since the replacement arm I ordered for the one that bent in a thunderstorm last summer was over $100 for each piece, I can't imagine two awnings, much less three, being $250.

I think he's referring to the $250 charge for modifications, i.e. changing the awning color from the standard color. That would be on top of the actual charge for the awnings on the Sports.
However, the charge for modifications was recently raised to $500, so I would assume this applies to awning color deviations as well.

the a/s modification charge has been 500$ for years...
zipdee charges 250 for the fabric variation.
cheers

Hi, I would say yes to 4,000 lbs GVWR for towing and when you don't have the stabilizer jacks lowered.

On the 22 foot unit the base weight is 3300 pounds and the GVWR is 4000. That gives you 700 pounds to play with. The numbers on the 17 foot unit are even less with only a 500 pound margin.
If you go with the AC, awning and microwave subtract another 200 pounds.
60 pounds of propane and 30 gallons of water (not sure of tank size) and you need to suntract another 300 pounds.
With just those items you have maxed out the 17 footer and the 22 footer has only enough capasity for 200 pounds of other stuff.
Has anyone else looked at these numbers????

There is one number that most posters are overlooking. Tongue weight. If you take a 4000# trailer, tongue weight is 4-500 LBS depending on the % you use to calc. This is weight that is transferred to the TV, giving more capacity. This may also be the difference in the ratings for Canada vs. US models. Same components, different way of doing the rating (SWAG on my part).

sorry brett, i don't think so....
this seems to be a common myth/misunderstanding.
tongue weight is included in the gvwr and rightly so...
the trailer frame/running gear still carry it and w/d gear actually INCREASES the stress on the frame/tongue/axles.
perhaps you'd like to explain this further...
