Dick's father started the clear coat, over 40 years ago at Airstream.
Then, like father like son, he has followed in his dad's footsteps, and very well at that.
Dick "IS" the undisputed KING of clear coat, as far as Airstream's are concerned.
I have known him for 40 years. Great guy.

Good to know! Wish he were on this side of the great divide, but I hear that in OH the P&S team is the way to go.
Thanks for the info.

I took my rig up to PandS in December just to do the front center end cap which was the only area which was breaking down.
Great folks and great job!
Ran over to Jackson Center out of curiosity while the work was being done.
Frankly, not very impressive.

You heard correctly.
They too, are great.
Excellent work, great prices, they get the job in and out, no messing around, and have for many years.
When the job is done, then you know what P & S stands for.
Pretty and Sharp.

I would love to hear from you. Have recent purchase of 1993 Excella. She is peeling like a sunburn, and looks dull. She is my retirement home and nice parks want nice looking exteriors. Thanks

Has anyone used Oasis RV in Tucson Arizona for polishing and reclearcoating? Are there any other recommendations other than P and S in Ohio?

Hello Dick, and welcome to airforums, com
Would you be willing to answer questions here on the forum about clear-coating vintage trailers? Giving us how-to hints and so on?
ps: your profile says you are female. If it's true, "like father like son", you might want to change that...

I have a 2000 34 w/Sofa Slide and the entire unit doesn't need to be redone yet. However, the front center cap had some peeling and last year I took it up to P and S which many on here have recommended and I am not pleased with the work they did.
When I'm ready, what would be the approx cost if you redid my entire trailer? Also, if I just replaced the center cap for now with a new one, what should that cost me?
Thanks,
Stewart in NC

If you have someone do it that really knows how, it will cost at least $5000.00.
Then it will be with material that lasts about 5 years or so.

Andy,
I would rather have it painted but I thought you had said you didn't paint them any more because you couldn't use the products that worked well any longer. So what are the best options for someone who plans to keep his unit long term but wants to keep the exterior looking nice.

Painting can be done in most parts of the USA, without any problems, and at a reasonable cost.
But in California, at least the southern part, it has sort of been outlawed by an over aggressive and under funded state.
More money, less benefits, all the way around, unless you work for the state.
All yes, we once said money was the route of all evil.
But, in Caliiiiiiiifornia, they changed that to politics, is the route of all evil. Small town mayors (population 40,000) drawing almost a million bucks a year.
Voting now, more often than not, is a matter of not choosing the best person, but choosing the least worst person.
Yep, the good ole days are gone, even many times for Airstream's and Airstreaming.
But hang in there folks, better days are promised. Whoopee!!!!
So, find a well qualified large vehicle paint shop, and ask them if they know how to paint aluminum, and have them tell you how. If they even bring up the word "acid" run, and run fast.
I have posted before the proceedure that we used for many years, with zero problems. If you can't find it, let me know and I will post it again.

Thank you Andy. Agree with you totally on all counts.
All those evil companies btw, some are clients of mine, aren't hiring until there is some resolution on the tax and healthcare requirements. Our responsible Congress leaves town and the unemployed in the ditch.
Also, what would be in your estimate, a fair cost to have my trailer painted?

A good metallic silver paint job, will run "ball park" $6000.00.

What's the advantage of paint over the original silver of the AL?

Plasticoat lasts typically 5 to 6 years, with yearly waxing.
Metallic silver, when done properly, lasts 25 to 30 years, with yearly waxing.
Cost per year much less with the silver paint.
