I've had the thought that the Factory should do this, both at the service center, and the factory..."Airstream Fantasy Camp". See what its like "first-hand" to build new and fix old trailers.
I don't see why an "independent" couldn't do the same thing.

Hands dirty, no problem.
Sweat?, maybe a little bit. I'm retired.
& blood?, that may be a bit too intense!
I've never bucked a rivet, it's time to learn.
I would be interest, depending on timing of the event, Spring or Fall.

Not a bad idea, especially for folks with no blue collar skills. Like high school shop classes for adults. Maybe get the assist of a curriculum developer so the information flows well from intro skills to more advanced without missing too much.

I think that this concept has a lot of merit. Rallies to discuss and address maintenance and repair issues could be very beneficial to the members here.

This concept could transcend the normal rally format with a maintenance and/or repair aspect.

We all need to learn more, and the best way to accomplish this is from others' experience.

Issues could even include topics like how to identify and locate campgrounds, how to avoid the Interstate highways, and how to efficiently make and brake camp. Newer RVers could especially benefit from live discussion on some of these basic issues. As a matter of fact, we could all benefit from hearing other approaches.

We would certainly sign up.

Stream Camp....Camp Stream....Air Camp.....

Wouldn't it be nice if someone had a big parcel of property in the middle.

We have only been to Vintage Academy once but thoroughly enjoyed it and will go back if it gets restated.

What a great idea! We are in the Southeast, but willing to travel. A few days or a week, either works for us!

The idea is worthwhile. The more interest in "diy" for the long time owner would be great!

The Resto idea is great!!! To teach folks the "rip-n-replace" or mere "how to approach a repair is a skill we need desperately... Not just in AS world.

Frank, having been an instructor, I believe you will be giving a special part of yourself to "keep 'em flyin!"... Maybe that is a good name for the "camp"/workshop?

Absolutely love this idea! I'm near Fort Worth, TX so I love that you are considering (hopefully) a TX camp. Just got a partially gutted 1962 26' Airstream and this newbie would love to meet others with similar interests!!

Count me in. Just popped the top off of my 71 caravel and flipped the gram tonight. Will be starting the rebuild soon and would really appreciate the information and experience. As said by others an Frank's East Coast Rally is a great idea. What are you thinking about logistics, lodging, food, curriculum? I vote for "big boy (and girl) rules, find a room and be here every day and bring Frank a descent lunch. Would also be a great place to network and meet like minded individuals (that can help me put my shell back on) and enjoy an adult beverage after a hard day of class. Please let us know if this ever happens.

It could be fun if a project like a shell-off was the center of the learning process. I'm not sure if it could go the full route in say a 5-day weekend but it would be an education on absolutely every system and material....

This would help anyone with a vintage trailer and a great reason for a road trip. Let us know of any developments.

I do not know if you all have noticed but Frank has not been on this forum for a fairly long time now. I think he got tired of being told how to do it better every time he posted.
I'd be interested in an Airstream camp and learn hands on as much as Frank is willing to give.
Mike

You have an interesting opinion there, Mike - but I'm not sure how you came to it.

First - Frank (who I don't know personally) asked for people's opinions and got plenty of them. Second, as recently as August he popped in on this thread and said he's still thinking about it and mentioned nothing about being offended by people's response to his solicitation for opinions in reaction to his initial thought.

I didn't really see anyone telling him how to do it better - just groups trying to play with a concept. Lots of interest too!

Actually, DesertAir is 100% correct. I have not been on Air since August. I used to post multiple times a day. August was 3 months ago. 1/4 year....
It is just too tiring having so many challenge everything I post. I feel strongly that commercial people have a target on their back. You might not notice it, but I do. I have watched many professionals stop posting here. I will not run down their names, those who pay attention see they no longer participate here.
You may not see anyone challenging me in this thread, but on any thread involving a repair or change you will. The people doing this always fit into the same stereotype; They post all day everyday racking up thousands of post in just the few months they have owned their Airstream. They also have read every single thread they can find on what ever subject being discussed. The things I post about are things I have learned first hand. This is not a hobby for me, it is my profession.

I am still kicking around the idea of an Airstream Camp. IF it does happen, it will be at my shop here in Baltimore. It will be a very limited number of participants. It will be extremely intensive and completely hands on. Participants will leave feeling they learned more than they ever expected. There will be a happy hour every day.
