Excella questions

Hi! I am new to RVing and Airstream other than knowing of their reputation.
I looked a t a 1992 Excella 1000, 32 yesterday in FL. It is shiny with upgrades and a queen/double bed in the rear.
I found a name in the appropriate section here for an inspection and am waiting for a response although I feel a bit uncomfortable having someone do this without compensation. Maybe a charitable donation?
Anyway, I would like some information on the differences between the Excella, 500 series, 1,000 series, wide body, etc.
I would probably be changing out the decor, wallpaer, counter and adding some kind of wood floor. I assume a regular contractor could handle this?
My intention is to full time and this seems like a fun way to do it.
Any comments would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Chris

I would not suggest a "regular" contractor, since they know nothing about an Airstream.

Use someone that specializes in Airstream remodeling or the like.

What you can and cannot do with an Airstream is very different from a house.

Payloads, weight and balance, axles, plumbing, heating, AC, low voltage systems, gaskets, water leaks, brakes, are all different.

Andy

Inspections and checklist

We have done some inspections for several trailers. We do it because we like to do it. If you find someone willing to go do it, take advantage. Offer to pay their gas and mileage, and perhaps tolls etc. for sure. There is an inspection checklist available in the forums here too.
As for remodeling, what Andy says is correct. An Airstream needs to remain flexible as it rocks and rolls down the road. A regular contractor might build it like a house and nail things so tight that it won't let it flex, and then the rigidity tears things apart.
Do lots of research on the forums before you buy. There are lots of great threads on here that will get you up and running and finding out what issues are deal breakers.
Good luck in your search!
