Replacing A/C 1999 Safari 25'

I just replaced my old Dometic 13,500 btu A/C. The drain pan is glued to the roof with some sort of polyurethane sealant. I used very sharp chisels, utility knife, kitchen knives, etc. to no avail. The best way to cut it loose is with a mulit-max oscillating tool - Harbor Freight and a 3" sealant cutter blade Genesis GAMT 613 or DeWalt DWA4232 from Amazon. You cannot remove all of the sealant inside of the camper. You have to get on the roof and remove the rest of it by tearing away the plastic drip pan from the base of the A/C. A floor jack placed under the A/C with a 2"x 2" to lift the A/C from the inside is a big help. I don't think that Airstream ever put a foam gasket on these units just lots of Vulkem. It's a bear to remove and you will destroy the drain pan - there's no way around it. My drain pan had a crack in it anyway. This was a poor designed pan with a spot for water to collect and freeze and a rubber hose going from the roof to the outside wall. The new Dometic 15k that I installed has nutserts in a plastic housing. One was defective and I had to add a backup nut behind it - another poor design. I'm very disappointed - this unit is built in China.

Newer AC has drain cups to replace the pan.
