Tires and Wheels - 1966 Safari - Whitewalls & Red Rims

Hi Everyone -
We have a new axel, custom made, and looking to try out our 1966 Safari this summer.

But before hitting the road, we are searching for a source for replacement tires for my 1966 Safari. I am looking for whitewall tires with red rims, and chrome baby moons.

Well I ordered a set of tires from a company (starts with a C) and the tires arrived - and clearly not the right size. They are about 4" wide, so back they go.
They look like a tire for an old-timey car, or a motorcycle.

So here goes again...what size tires do you all recommend, and where can I find some snazzy red rims?

Thank you so much for your advice. Best, Corinne & David.

Any progress on whitewalls?

Hi there, I'm searching for the same thing for our '67 Safari. Have you made any progress in your search?

I just went through this for my '58 Traveler. Mine came with 7-14.5 tires but those appear to getting phased out. I went with a Dexter Axle with Electric Brakes.

I went through etrailer and got these;

Then Vintage Trailer and got these;
http://www.vintagetrailersupply.com/...-p/vts-496.htm

I already had some ss trim rings so I'll be using those. Still trying to decide between red or black for the wheels but on my other ones I went with Rustoleum and just rattle canned them. They looked great & after 2 years still look good (easier to paint prior to mounting the tires!)

Tires...still trying to decide but so far a ST205/75-15 is the right size to replace the LT 7-14.5 tires. I want to be sure to get 8 Ply for the side wall to help reduce sway yet don't want to have more so the ride will not get much rougher on my old leaf spring axle. The Goodyear Endurance is the one that allot here are using & may be the tire of choice.

Whitewalls

Thanks! I have a couple of emails out to companies that sell whitewalls to see what will be a good fit. You're right though, gotta be 8 ply. When, or if, I find a good tire, I'm going to post it.

'67 Safari tires

Thanks for the reply, Corrine. I've been in touch with a company (doesn't start with a C) that can still provide a wide white wall in my 7.00-15 trailer tire. (I'm not smart enough to know what your '66 requires) They seem to think a wide whitewall P205 trailer radial will fit even though it's about .5" inches wider on each side. Seem like I have the clearance, but I've got to be sure before I lay out $500. About an inch shorter though. Not a big deal to me. Sure, the 7:00-15 is original, but if the radial will fit and do a better job....I'm all in. I'll keep you posted if you like. Thanks again.

Take a look at http://www.wheelvintiques.com for your wheels then shop them at http://www.jegs.com and compare at http://www.summitracing.com

Also take a look at http://www.cokertire.com and shop them at the above.

I went from a ST205/75Rx14 to a P245/60R15 on 15x 7" wheel on my Casita.

You may want a P205/70Rx15 or a P215/70Rx15 for your trailer on a 15 x 7" wheel.
