Sofa bed upgrade?

We're looking for our first Airstream, and I see on the Airstream classifieds a couple of older ('67 and '68) 22' Safaris that have been restored. They look really nice in the photos, but I'm concerned about the bed, which is a front fold-out sofa. My wife and I are pretty particular about our beds. How hard would it be to just replace the sofa with a real bed or modify it in some way to make it more comfortable?

I'm not sure how hard it would be to remove and replace however you could always buy a mattress topper with memory foam or a feather bed. The twins in our AS were very hard and uncomfortable when we bought it so we decided to buy memory foam toppers and the mattresses feel new. Good luck in your search.

I just built a sofa "Hide-da-bed" queen island in our AS.... We got a spring/air bed mattress off the internet. It seems to be quit comfy. We both wanted an Island Queen. Come check out my thread under "Sovereign -1972 Sovereign - "The old girl needs new shoes" Page 7 and 8 will give you information on our new bed.....http://www.airforums.com/forums/f185...oes-71804.html
