Question---> Where Can I Find the Plastic Lower Drawer Hinges??

All,

The lower Drawers under the front dinette and under the side couch-sleeper have a plastic piano type hinge on the drawer doors.
The doors raise and then slide in and trays can be slide out.

Several of my plastic hinges have broken.

Where can I find these long plastic hinges?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for posting pictures of your drawer doors, Groovzilla. All the doors on my under sofa drawers are missing. I saw the tracks at the top of the openings but could not imagine what type of door fit the tracks. Now it makes sense, and I should be able to reproduce the doors.

The hinge shown in the previous post looks like it would work.

I have never seen those hinges before, but, try Vintage Trailer Supply in Santa Fe New Mexico. If anybody know, they will. You might also try Vintage Trailer Window Gaskets out of Walnut California. I just looked at Vintage Trailer Parts.com and they show plastic table hinges in their closeout section. They might work! Good luck!

Thanks ALUMINUMINUM!
Yes I think that Hinge style will work if the width of either end of those hinges will fit over the drawer doors. If not I can probably custom fit them

Thanks again!

I edged my Formica counter-tops with fluted barbed T moldings from Outwater. They were exactly as described and shipped promptly. They have an enormous inventory of hard to find extrusions and hardware. Lots of stuff you didn't know you needed too.

I phoned in the custom-cut order, it was on my porch in a week, and they got it right the first time.

Good Service, Good Product

Good Luck!

McMaster Carr may be able to help. They will often find products for me even if they donít have it. Just use the contact button and ask. I found this.
Their website is the best I have ever used.

I ordered the Plastic Hinges from the Outwater Plastics link that ALUMINUMINUM posted.

They sell them in 12' lengths and have different random cut choices. They will cut as small as 12" lengths and then jump to 46" lengths.
I need (3) 19.5" pieces for the under Dinette drawers and (2) 24" pieces for the under sleeper sofa drawers.

So I ordered the (3) 46" pieces which will cover what I need and have some left over if another hinge breaks.
Cost was $20 for the 3 pieces and $21 shipping so $41 total.

I'll post photos of my repair once I get them installed.

Plastic Bin Hinge

I used rubber contact cement to attach a strip of rubberized window shade material (not solid) to the back of the hinges. I could not find them either. This is holding up and works well. If you use a wider plastic hinge, you may have to increase the slot width for the two parts of the door when sliding back under the seat / bed (opening the storage bin).

**Very smart idea. I was thinking one could also use a thick clear plastic similar to the material you used.
Either way great thinking to remedy the issue.

My hinges arrived today. I'll write up a post once I work on installing them.

SO the Hinges I ordered arrived. Unfortunately they are white in color which I knew before buying them. They only come in white and after receiving them I don't care for them
I am pretty sure I can make them work however I really don;t like the white color----> So after viewing your post, I am going to go your route and fabricate some clear plastic to go behind the inside of the original hinges and clue the plastic material down like you did. This way you won't be able to see any of the material being used.

I'll add some photos when I get around to doing the project. I have 5 door fronts in total to repair.

Drawer Hinge Update

Well I finally got some time to dive into the removal/replacement of the drawer hinges.
**The plastic hinges I ordered are a great fit - The width of both openings of hinges match very well to the drawer width.

Since the new hinges are white, I chose a tan spray paint and just got done spraying the new hinges.
*I used small clamps to support the hinges during the painting - Keeps them off the table and since I am only painting the surfaces that can be seen when drawers are in place, works well.

Once I get them installed I will take some final photos - Hinges are currently drying and taking a bit more time due to the cold weather.

Thanks for the update. That's a great original looking repair. All my doors were missing from my Airstream. Now I know how to make some new ones.

Should be very easy to make new doors. And the plastic hinges work great. I simply stapled the new hinges on the undersides just as the originals were done.

The smaller top door that slides along the tracks has wooden blocks on either side that keep it aligned/centered when it is slid open or closed.

Tips for installing new hinges & making the drawer doors

More info if you are making the drawer doors and also tips on paint color.

-The doors are 3/8" thick.
-Home depot makes really nice 2'x4' 3/8" plywood panels w/top maple layer for nice grain and finish.
-Larger door has a 45 degree angle cut at bottom for finger space when opening.
-Doors have a small locking wheel at inside bottom to secure door shut
-smaller top door has 2 small wooden blocks to keep it lined up on the interior track
-great paint match is Rustoleum Satin Enamel in Dark Taupe color - The new cans have an assortment of built-in spray tips and tip I used gives a nice fine spray.

Finished replacing the hinges on the last 2 doors under sofa pull out sleeper.

The larger doors under sofa sleeper are longer but just as easy to replace hinges.
Just replaced the 2 hinges that were broken.

Thank you for the additional details on making these doors. It's very helpful.
My goal as I rebuild my Airstream is to keep the original look and these flip up doors were original to my 1970 trailer. Yours are the first pictures I've seen showing how these unique doors function.
