One man end cap install.

I'm ready to install the fiberglass endcaps on my 68 Safari, but the front one is kind of heavy and unweildy. Any suggestions about how to raise it and hold it in place while I rivet it up?

It's very difficult for one person.

Attach a 2x4 ledge under the front window to rest the lower edge on.

Screw some cleats to the floor and use 2x4 jack posts to support the center of the end cap.

Start putting in clecos at the center line upper edge.

Check the bottom edge hole alignment and cleco if possible. You may need to push in the center of the cap to get the holes lined up. Have lots of clecos available.

You might also want to use 5/32" rivets instead of 1/8". It's likely some of the holes in the fiberglass are wallowed out from years of road use.

Good luck. It's one of the toughest jobs to do one-handed.

end cap support

I made these to take the end caps down. Like you I was working solo. Sorry can't give you any dimensions. I'm not putting the fiberglass caps back up so I dismantled the support.

The shorter support in the back has a lip for the bottom edge of the cap to sit on.
