Ive looked this over quite closely...and cant seem to find how to turn on the pilot ...The gas is on at the tanks and the safety valve next to the furnace is open...no gas...help...pics might be helpful also

Most furnaces don't have a pilot.

Which furnace have you got in the rig?

The first thing that I always do is make sure the gas system works at all. I would light the range. If it works, Then go to the furnace and configure to light. Hold the "pilot" button for as long as you can stand with a lighter in hand. Try to light it periodically and when it finally does, hold it for another minute so it gets hot. I'm sure there will be a lot of other recommendations but I have found this ot work after my aluminum has been sitting for any period of time. It helps to do this where it is warm and dry before getting on the road.

this one looks to have what i assume to be a pilot...next to the thermocouple...its a Suburban...

When the thermostat is 'on'...the blower operates and i cant get a flame to the pilot

Ok, it sounds like you've got power to the furnace. Now check to make sure that you're getting propane through the lines from the cylinders.

1. Try the (cooking) stove. If you've got no flame there, then start searching backwards toward the cylinders.

2. If you've got stovetop flame, then check to make sure that the furnace itself does not have a gas cutoff valve.

Where is the pilot button??? Im quite familiar with home gas appliance operation (stove, furnace(new and old) and water heaters...) :-)

Can you read the model number on your Suburban? Is it an NT30(X)?

Went over to the trailer today and looked at my furnace. I also get my service manual. I can't scan but will copy for you.

Operating Instructions NT-16, NT-22 and NT-32
1. To light the furnace, turn the manual valve to "off"position and wait 5 minutes. Set the thermostat at it's lowest setting. Open manual valve. Correct operating characteristics depend on this valve being positioned fully open. Never attempt to operate with valve partially closed.
2. Remove lighter hole cover. (On all models, the furnace front is not exposed, so the lighter hole must be reached by first opening the cabinet and then lifting the furnace access door. After lifting access door, remove lighter hole cover.)
3. Press reset button and hold. Insert a burning match through opening so that the flame is near the pilot. On the initial lighting the pilot may not light immediately due to air in the gas line. If such is the case, it may necessary to hold the reset button in for a minute or more before the pilot lights. When the pilot is burning, continue to hold the reset button in for approximately 30 seconds or until the pilot continues to burn when the reset button is released.
4. Replace the lighter hole cover.
5. Replace furnace panels.
6. Set thermostat at desired position.

There is much more on the sequence of normal operation, the fan switch and how it will operate even after the thermostat is satisfied to cool the unit before it shuts down. There is also an extensive section on pilot outage problems depending on which phase is associated with pilot outage: off phase, start-up phase or operating phase.

Wow, so the NT22 does indeed have a pilot!

You know, before going toooo much further, you might want to inspect the chamber to make sure that it's not rusted or burned out.

That is a recall furnace. That means that, besides the fact it's 40 years old, it may have a combustion problem that may kill you. Read more here:

Well...Thanks for the instructions...after looking mine over more thoroughly I came to exactly the same conclusion of how to light it as you instructed...The knob for my 'pilot button' was missing...hence some confusion...Im guessing now i need a new/different regulator....I have plenty of gas, nothing is getting ot the stove either...i even loosened the brass fitting where it meets the manifold on the cooktop...nothing...SO...anyone have an extra regulator laying around? :-)

My original intent was to just use it enough to allow me to work in it this winter...Definatly going to replace it sooner than later..maybe MUCH sooner!

Wow, thanks to the moderator for this choice bit of information - and humor (LOL). I am not clear what the problem is with these units but will certainly find out. Is it just a matter of rust or poor design that creates the danger?

Hope someone can shed some light.

The recall had to do with a crossover tube on the back side of the furnace that was found to be failing. This website has a lot of information about the recall: Suburban furnace

Thanks for the sight. It looks like the only way to be sure is to remove the unit. I was hoping to avoid that but "what the heck". Most of the interior is already out and it might be the right time for a new furnace and replace the Univolt.
