Deadbolt on door

Greeting all,

Does anyone have a resource for a proper deadbolt for my 67? Is it an RV specific lock or something generic? Any tips or suggestions would be very appreciated. I am picking up my trailer this weekend, and my first priority is to make it secure.

Cheers, Adair

There was a post about this recently. Andy from Inland R V warned about drilling and adding a deadbolt in some doors as it will weaken the frame......

I have a generic one in my 63. There used to be a Traverlers Rest guy who came to all the Internationals and installed them. You have to cut down the size of the locking member of the deadbolt so you do not weeken the door frame. It is a simple job with a hacksaw and a file. That did not stop someone from breaking two jallosy window panels in hopes to stick their hand thru and find a knob to turn on the inside to open the trailer. I guess they should have posted a sign on the side of the trailer that the deadbolt had keys only on both sides.

My yet unnamed Safari alrady has a hole below the door handle for a deadpolt, as well as a lock plate. I guess I have to wait until I have it home to get the details and dimensions. I assumed it was a stock item. Thanks for the input.

Cheers, Adair

Mine has a deadbolt on it that really secures the door well. Without it our door would pop out going down the road. Will try and get some pics this weekend for you.

Bought mine at a small RV repair shop. It was in a dusty old A&E blister pack that had been counted a bazillion times in inventory counts and had numerous price tags on it, so they were delighted with my 5 dollar purchase. Works like a charm and I used it in the hole that had been covered over from the original. My buddies '51/2 still has the original Slage brand in it and it is smaller than the one I got, but not by much. When you are passing through small towns it wouldn't hurt to check out the local RV repair shops. They may even install it for 1/2 hour labor if you are lucky.
