City water

I'm plumbing my 68 Safari from scratch and I need some information on how to attach city water to my pex plumbing. First, do I need to install a ball valve to close off the city water line when not in use? Second, do I need to put a pressure regulator in that line and if so, could anyone recommend one? If anyone has pictures of how theirs is set up that would be appreciated. Thanks

You can use an external pressure regulater. Easier to replace than one hard piped.
Most city water connections have a built in check valve which fail from time to time.
A ball valve to shut it off is not a bad idea.
As well as one to prevent back feeding the onboard pump.

Hi

What fits or does not fit will dictate what you can use. A pressure regulator *somewhere* is a needed part of the system. If you don't put it in the trailer, it will have to be on the hose each time you hook up. There are advantages to each way. The belt and suspenders approach is to do both.

A ball valve for disconnect is not normally part of the setup. A back flow prevention valve ( so you don't get sprayed disconnecting ....) often is part of the setup. It also lets you use the water pump without capping the city water input ( = yes use the back flow valve ).

So: Most simple answer - no regulator / no valve / no back flow, just hook it with a hose connector. (and cap it every time you are "done" .... uggg ....).

Most fancy answer - adjustable regulator / back flow / fancy hose connector

I plumbed with pex and used residential fixtures, I don’t use a pressure regulator. I installed a check valve just north of the trailer entry, but I also put a plug in when I’m not hooked to city water.

I used residential fixtures as well.
Connected sinks, toilet and water heater with stainless steel braided hoses. Makes for easy connections etc.

Where I store my trailer the water pressure is often over 100 psi. Never any problems.

I will use an external pressure regulator.
The picture is before tank drain was put through the floor & before the fill tube for the tank was in place.
After I hooked it all up I tested the city side/tank sideClick image for larger version

ID:	318381, no leaks & no problem with back feeding the pump.
Hope this helps.

In the photo the check mark with the word valve is a check valve.

I was going to mount the pump vertically but ended up mounting it to the floor.
The pump can be mounted either way.

Too bad A$ and others don't have your pride in workmanship. Along with future access and maintenance in mind.
Looks Great!
