Bed placement 1968 22' Safari

Hello everyone. We did a 1969 a few years back and basically did the original floor plan but I want to change things up with our "new" 1968. We have a 22' 1968 Safari- The original floor plan has the "bed" on the left side by door. I want the bed in the back, my husband in the front. He says it would not be possible due to the back window- would need to move BR and can't because of wheel hubs. We are definitely doing a full bed but I really do not want it at the front, by the door. I am wondering if anyone has experience with this...recommendations, suggestions, etc. Thanks!

bed placement

We put the bed at the front of our '67 22' Safari, made it queen size if the curved portion is discounted and put almost half of it on 4 strong drawer tracks so it slides back when not being used as a bed. Bed cushions were sized so they could also be useful when used as a couch. See photos.

The story of our trailer renovation is under this Air Forums you are using, see "Jim+Jane's '67 Safari".

Thanks for the post! What did you use for the cushions/mattress? The slides/tracks that you used- do they have legs or are they strong enough to support the bed?

Thumbs up bed support & mattress

For support of the cantilevered portion we used 2 pair of 24" full extension drawer glides, each pair rated at 220 lbs so no legs required. It has not sagged a bit and I'm no featherweight.

I stole the mattress spec from David of Conifer, CO, aka "dbj216". His 4" mattress had a density of2.8 pounds and firmness of 36 Indentation Load Deflection. We gave this info to our upholstery folks and they may have tweaked it further. Jane adds a 1" dimpled soft foam pad on top of the cushions so she does not notice the joints between cushions.

David and others were quite helpful to me as the renovation progressed.

To see how this was framed, go to page 7 of "Jim + Jane's 1967 Safari" blog below your posting.

Oh, welcome to Air Forums! Spend time exploring the abundant information from other Streamers. Of course the postings are their own opinions and there will be friendly disagreements but it's all worth considering.
