The extruded metal just seems a little bare just being riveted to the body.

Airstream did not use "insert type" moldings until 1974.
Prior to that, the center part of the moldings were either painted, or covered with blue electrical tape.
A few owners have chosen to replace the older rub rail and belt line moldings with the later "insert type."
