1968 Safari - Have Stove, Ref - Need Cargo Door

I am going through my 1968 Safari and have some parts I have taken out that are available to whoever might need them:

1. Original stove. Works fine.

2. Original refrigerator. Don't know if it works.

3. Original furnace. Don't know if it works.

4. Gas lamp light. I think it is original. I imagine it would work.

I need a couple of things:

1. Rear cargo door and latch.

2. Stone guard for front window.

Be happy to get my stuff to a new owner for the cost of shipping, or free for local pick up. Hope to get a reasonable price on the stuff I need.

Unfortunately I don't have what you're looking for, but "wow", I sure think I might be able to use some of your parts . . . and I'm right here in San Diego. I have a '67 22' Safari. I bought it back in January and all I've done with it is lots of work and lots of $$$. It's currently up at Inland RV getting a new axle, awning, and a variety of other things done to it. It's been an interesting adventure, to say the least. Planning a two week trip up to Napa and Yosemite in early August. Stone guard--Was it Louis and Sergio who had the very cool stone guard made from perforated aluminum? These guys are out of Phoenix. They were at the 4CU Restoration Rally last month. Anyone have their screen name(s)? I need to make one, too.

Rear Cargo Door-- is this the big door that provides access to the plumbing in the rear bath, or is it the smaller door (about 15x26) that provides access under the bed from the side? I have a spare of the smaller type--free for shipping.

Hi Zep,

We made the rear bumper compartment bottom from perforated aluminum, and we talked about how great that material would work for a rock guard. Our rock guard is in excellent shape, but if we ever have to replace it we will probably use that same material. We purchased a sheet of the perforated aluminum from a sheet metal supplier here in phoenix. If you need we can send you a photo of the perforated aluminum that we have left over. Let us know.

Hey, I think the electrons in my PM to you and this post passed each other in the wire (very cheap simulation of the LHC!). Yes, I'd like to see a photo of the metal pattern--I can't believe I remember it as a rock guard. I'll take the photo to town and see if anyone here has it. There are some nice "L" extrusions that can be used to make the frame, easily curved if you've got a shrinker.

I've seen the perforated aluminum rock guard on forum member Jacob D's restoration thread, and it looks great. Here's a link to the beginning of it, he discusses it (and where he sourced it at onlinemetals.com) on the first page, and on the second page you can see it installed.

Update: I have been able to get the control panel, the stove and the lamp to new homes. At the same time I have gotten some great feedback on my restoration efforts, including really good ideas like that rock guard.

These forums are a great resource and I really appreciate everyone's comments.
