Question International heater 1525 questions?

Greetings safari owners! I have just joined your ranks and I have many questions. My first project is the furnace, it is the original unit and does work, but not optimally. The pilot lights, but goes out after the main gas feed turns on. There is also a large rust hole that I believe is connecting the trailer to the "combustion chamber" At any rate it looks scary. My question is this. Can I get parts for this unit or find anyone to work on it or should I scrap-it and sleep in comfort knowing I spent 650 bucks on an updated unit? Thanks for your time.
Cheers

Lou,

I kept my 1967 Suburban furnace. Check this thread out for things to keep in mind. In the very last post, I discussed a solution to the very same problem you are having with the pilot light blowing out.

I am making progress

Thanks Tom, the threads were very informative and I have just completed removal of my furnace. The only way I could light it in the first place was by poking the pilot with a safety pin. I think a good cleaning could go a long way!
I see alot of corrosion on the unit but I am trying to stay positive. Best rgrds
